The Trifecta of Gratuitous Stupidity: Palin, Perry, and Bachmann Share the Spotlight

What is it about running for President, or thinking about running for President, that attracts some of the most foolish Republicans? Palin, Perry, and Bachmann seem to share many things. They each have a belief in the importance of women being subservient to men, a belief that being homosexual is simply a failure to pray hard enough, a very limited education, a claim of being fiscal conservatives even though they have each taken a lot of money from the government, and they are each religious zealots. However there is another characteristic they share: Gratuitous Stupidity!

Sarah Palin is the Empress of stupid comments. Just a few examples would include her comments about building dikes, our North Korean allies, and “all of them.” Her most recent and memorable comment, was not only her declaration that Paul Revere warned the British, but her defense of that stupid remark.

Rick Perry recently indicated that Ben Bernanke, the Chairman of the Federal Reserve was guilty of treason.  As if that was not a stupid thing to say, Perry added to his stupidity by defending the remark.

Michele Bachmann guaranteed a winning trifecta for Republican candidates, by her recent comment in South Carolina  that that crowd should join her in wishing Elvis a “Happy Birthday.” People in the crowd were scratching their heads. Perhaps some of them had seen this video, indicating that Elvis died?

Maybe they had gone to the wikipedia site that indicated that Elvis ENDED life on August 16th, instead of beginning life on that day.

The amazing thing is that Bachmann’s comments about Elvis were gratuitous. She was not in the state where Elvis was born or died. She was not giving a speech at the Elvis Presley Museum. She was not leaving flowers at Graceland.

Michele Bachmann, like Palin, and Perry, was just being gratuitously stupid. This is one time that the Republican candidates should not reload the stupid comments, but should simply retreat!

  1. Too bad Elvis didn’t have the option of liposuction like Sarah does to get rid of unwanted flab. He could have eaten his Elvis specials and continued a few more years of touring.

In his generous “good ole boy” way he was decent. Certainly more so than Sarah, Michele of Rick Perry.

Interesting to see that people still care about the man.

I think Sarah is finished myself, but Michele and Rick are just as bad, though a bit more articulate.

Sarah quotes Mark Twain, Michelle brings in Elvis and lauds a serial killer. Twits.

We have to suffer through another election with the Fundi’s before their day is done and Republican Party can purge itself.

    And it will.

    1. lilly lilly,
The really frightening part to me is that liberals may think that there is no way Perry, Palin, or Bachmann could ever win, but the truth is that they COULD win.

  2. I am simply amazed everyday that ignorance is being not only tolerated, but celebrated in the conservative circles. When did being intelligent and informed on basic facts become a bad thing? I fear for our country if the right-wing doesn’t wake up soon.

Thank you Malia for doing your part to expose the madness.

    1. craigtamy,
Thanks for reading, and for your comment. I don’t have an answer for you. I’m waiting on the day that education becomes something we cherish and praise.

  3. Malia, you miss the point with the Bachmann’s Elvis tribute. She was celebrating his death, a true American death. Elvis died with an enlarged heart, morbidly obese, and 14 different prescription drugs in his system. He is a tribute to those great companies who make and supply our food and drugs.

    1. aj,
You are right, maybe we could get Palin to do a speech recognizing the fact that we worshiped Elvis, and he was allowed to eat anything he wanted.

      1. And people still love him 34 years later…she won’t be remembered for 34 days once she leaves the stage. He actually contributed something positive to society…I’m still waiting for Sarah to contribute anything but disdain and hate.

  4. It is utterly sickening that such ignoramuses as Bachmann, Palin, and Perry could even be remotely considered for, much less elected to, any political office. The present day GOP has truly degenerated from the party of Eisenhower, Jack Kemp, and William Buckley, as well as others like them. Right about now, their party is resurrecting Rev. Wright as a way to smear President Obama. IMO, it is their way of deflecting from the fact that they have nothing to offer America except their stale, discredited ideology. While we can laugh at instances of stupidity, like Bachmann’s mistaking Elvis Pressley’s date of death for his date of birth, there is no reason to pretend that the anti-intellectualism and lack of empathy that all 3 of these folks represent is not a threat to this country’s well-being. I was discussing Bachmann’s latest gaffe with my 15-year-old grandson, and we both laughed. However, when I told him about the remark she made to the effect that the Founding Fathers who lived in the 18th century fought tirelessly until slavery ended, he told me he was sickened by her stupidity to the point that he didn’t want to hear any more about her. It speaks volumes when young people who haven’t reached adulthood have that level of disrespect for potential presidential nominees.

  5. Malia —
Just found this hilarious tweet about Bachmann after the D.C. earthquake:
“Michele Bachmann is readying her speech to ease the fears of everyone regarding today’s earthquake in Washington State.”

And here’s a chance for your fans to caption a photo of Bachmann meeting Abe Lincoln. The funniest tweets are on this page: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/08/18/caption-this-michele-bachmann-abe-lincoln_n_930710.html#s333724&title=Claude_Goguen
