Clarification by Anchorage Police Officer

Officer Dave Parker, of the Anchorage police Department , contacted me today to clarify that it was NOT Thomas Van Flein who contacted the Anchorage Police on behalf of Sarah Palin.  The attorney who was representing Sarah Palin, and  who contacted the Anchorage police Department was John Timessen.  Officer Parker said that there is currently no plan of the Police Department to issue a “retraction” of the previous press release to clarify the “MINOR”  issues that were misstated in the previous press release.  There is currently also no plan to review the cell phones or computer in their possession to determine the names or identity of the phone numbers on the evidence in their possession.  Thus if there is evidence on the cell phone or computer in the possession of the police, of a connection between Todd Palin and Shailey Tripp, the Anchorage Police Department has no current plan to investigate  that connection.  Perhaps a more accurate press release would have stated “…the arrest of Shailey Tripp DID result from a report by William Fortier, and the Anchorage Police Department has evidence in its possession regarding the business dealings of Shailey Tripp, but we are making the choice not to look at it.”

  1. If they have chose not to review the information on those technologies, they should return them to Ms. Tripp if they have nothing to do with the arrest.

Their position is that as long as they don’t need the evidence to prosecute Tripp or Thomas, then they have no use for the evidence. They are obviously not interested in the identity of the men who visited either of them. Malia

      1. Exactly, I wonder what excuse they are giving Ms. Tripp to retaining this property until the case is over, unless she has not asked for it. Thankfully you can find much more ethical cops than not, at least I can say that for the 22 years I served. Thank you for inquiring about this press release. This might be my first comment on your blog, but I do read your blog everyday. I appreciate professionalism and you exude that quality.

Thanks for letting me know you are out there, and thank you for following along with us. I have ultimate respect for the police, but find that if police are corrupt that it causes a lack of faith in our entire system. Malia

      3. Hi Malia…well, the computer and phone records could reveal other crimes, drugs, underage sexual abuse, gambling, etc. If prostitution is illegal, aren’t the people that used the services guilty as well?

I am very disgusted in our police department. They really need to be professional now especially since the 18 felony sexual abuse conviction of one of their own, Rollins.

  3. I can’t say how pleased I am to read this post Malia! You hve the anchorage police department reading your blog and responding quickly in order to try to influence your beliefs and what you are saying. And of course Malia, you being a smart person you know very well that they’re not attempting to be friendly and trying to get to know you in a social way. Hahahahaha! Lucky for you that you are far enough away from them so you can remain safe. Let’s jsut say, safe from their undue criticism of what you are doing.

Do you think they may have some really, really big problems lurking in the dark recesses of their closets? (minds)

    1. Michael,
It would only be my speculation, but I think there is a reason they don’t want to examine the cell phones and computer in their possession, and it might be much more important to the police than anything to do with Todd Palin.

      1. yup, yup, yup…….Anchorage is not that large a city, I imagine there are “many names” that should “not” be in those records.

You should ask the APD why they seized them as evidence if they don’t plan to examine them. And if they don’t examine evidence why did they do so for ordinary citizen Todd Palin?

Why should Todd Palin’s attorney have any pull at all?

Would that be the job of lawyers? Perhaps Shailey needs a pro bono attorney to make copies of her property.

Tewise, can you help out with these questions and explain procedures?

        Like

      2. Exactly. Nobody wants to see those names. I’ve said before, I doubt it’s standard procedure to pour through the names of johns after hookers are busted. But also, in this case, where this facility was so well known that it was frequented by the governor and governer’s husband, ( Shailey mentioned high-profile customer records are kept separate from regular customers), I’m sure there are a lot of interesting names on file.

Didn’t the other hooker say she was working on a story herself? That will be entertaining, I’m sure.

        Good summary btw, Malia.

  4. And the reason for not looking or investigating the evidence is???? Also too, prostitution is a two way crime. Was Tripp alone or Todd was part of it?
Why is it that women these two women are crusifield and men go free? with that statement Shailey and the other girl have no case to answer.
You GOP men are disgusting with your lose pants. Seriously.

As a woman the whole senario pisses me off, why these drupie men, and Todd can go untouched is beyond me.
Shame on the Anchorage police for the cover up. Shame on Sarah for defending her pant snifer husband for money and fame.

  5. I said yesterday that Parker had no way of knowing who called the PR in. He is full of spit. The fact that he is the one communicating is very suspicious.

there was no official PR, and he is playing to save his ass. I doubt EVERY word he has “communicated”.

As a lawyer Malia, you know this cant be normal nor is it believeable.

    Like

    1. I find it not normal and unbelievable that they would banter back and forth with a blogger about this case. And why issue a press release to begin with, regarding a person, who as far as they knew, had zero to do with this case. Why didn’t they issue a release saying Barack Obama’s name did not appear in any of the records, too? It’s just as ridiculous. I mean, as far as they’re concerned Todd has nothing, nothing to do with this. They’ve declared that in their first dishonest press release. They should issue a retraction and the person responsible for approving the press release should be fired.

  6. Yes, like all of Todd’s buddies he sent Shailey’s way! Perhaps even some Anchorage PD gentlemen were sent for a “massage”! Wouldn’t put it past anyone up there in the abyss!

  9. Was Parker reading your blog on “State time” and on “State owned equipment”???

Malia, I believe you have managed to get under the skin of Parker. Love it. Love watching when they squirm!!! Caught in their own web of lies and treatment of some citizens as not everyone is entitled to this same treatment.

I still believe it’s necessary to take this higher up the chain as their rules and procedures are questionable.

The Presser is not on their Press Release site and ‘ALL’ Pressers should be available on line. It is not a pick and choose of which they can post.

This still has that distinct scent of a cover up.
Yes – I’m talking to you PARKER. Keep squirming.
It is on full display and has been documented of how the treatment of an ‘Ex-First Dude’ is handled differently than how you would treat everyday citizens. Doesn’t look good on ya

If they get enough letters, maybe they will feel the need to issue a retraction. I know the story of their Press Release was picked up and published across the internet, so that fact the it was misleading would suggest to me that they accomplished their goal, and it should be their responsibility to correct the record. We will see just how much pressure they feel. Malia

What a bunch of worms there are up there in the Anchorage PD. Are they so stupid they think this will stay under wraps? What was their purpose in confiscating those items if they did not intend to examine them? Because they have already examined them and found Todd’s name, phone number etc., that is why. This will come back to haunt them – big time I hope. Thank you for your continued efforts. I am ticked off. Typed up the letter you asked us to send.

  12. Just a thought …. remember the ‘thugs’ who detained the AK Dispatch reporter? They cuffed him …. restrained him ….. they were from some sleazy operation/gun shop that had ties to Todd Palin.

There is a reason the police don’t want to ‘examine’ the laptop and cell phone records …. Not saying ‘those names’ WOULD turn up, but …. the APD isn’t taking any chances, are they?

Better to let ‘the girls’ take the fall, while ‘the boys’ stay protected.

  13. Hmmm. APD is happy with their press release as it stands. Well, maybe they need to just plop that little press release out on their web site. Give that little puppy some sunshine and lots of clicks from the public. Just to show the public that they don’t play favorites and crank out their press releases just for priviliged citizens to specific media outlets.

Or, maybe, APD is just scared silly about their little game with press releases.

    methinks, scared.

I think it stinks too! They are explaining that because Shailey and Kashawn plead no-contest to the misdemeanor charges, there was no reason to pursue this further. 2. It’s a secondary crime. The primary criminal is the hooker, or in other cases for example, the drug dealer, or the thief who steals goods to sell out of the back of his car to customers later on.

What do they really have anyway, a name, possibly not even a real one, a nickname? Todd was a customer, certainly, but he took his condoms with him, he paid cash, he signed nothing. It’s not prosecutable. The only time they bust johns is when they do a sting and they catch the customer with literally his pants down AND exchanging money. Because even if they have sex, sex is not illegal. The money exchange is what is illegal and you need proof of that.

      3. Samantha,
The real problem is that there is a huge difference between what would stand up in court, and what the APD send out in a press release. The press release was sent for the express purpose of vindicating Todd, and while there may not be sufficient proof that he did all alleged, it is wrong for the police department to send out a press release commenting on the guilt or innocence of anyone, especially based on evidence in their possession which we would assume they had reviewed, but in fact did not. Malia

  16. OK, I’m confused. In Alaska prostitution is legal for the customer and a crime for the person being paid? Down here in the lower 48, the police target the customers too. In fact, they even get face time.
At a higher level, you have a an adviser to the mayor and governor who knew of an active house of prostitution and failed to notify authorities.

Tell me, what wife is going to want their husband in jail and possibly lose his job because he stopped by to see a hooker for one night, or what mother wants their 17 year old son in jail because he experimented with sex?

I would think that most police officers would be upset that they go to all of the work to fight crime and then have it covered would be a great dissappointment to most of them. I would hope that is the case.

  25. There are some interesting perspectives on the practice in the U.S. of criminalizing the supply side of prostitution (the women) versus the demand side (the johns). Clearly, APD’s reaction is typical of such an approach (although there clearly seems to be pressure from the Palin camp to suppress it). The women are arrested and prosecuted, but even though there are laws on the books making buying sex illegal, they don’t even bother to find out who the johns are. Here’s an interesting article on the effectiveness of criminalizing the *demand* side http://www.justicewomen.com/cj_sweden.html

Norway and Iceland adopted this approach also, in 2009.

Who can afford to throw around $50 & $100 for themselves and their buddies? Oh, that’s right. Rich and influential people. They can’t possibly be criminals. We won’t allow it.
