Bias Doesn’t Affect Blood in the Zimmerman Case

Today the defense has called friends of George Zimmerman to identify the voice calling for help on the 9-1-1 tape. The prosecution called the family members of Trayvon Martin who testified that the voice calling for help was that of Martin. The problem is that all the witnesses, for both sides, are biased. It would be virtually impossible for either side to find people who could identify the screams for help as being Zimmerman or Martin, without the witness being a close friend or family member of the person who they believed was calling for help. The additional problem is that there are not any witnesses who knew both Zimmerman and Martin before the evening of the shooting. Perhaps the prosecution will be allowed to present rebuttal experts to refute the testimony of the friends and family who think they heard Zimmerman’s voice. The audio experts of the state would testify that the voices were not that of Zimmerman based on the comparison of the 9-1-1 call voice and the screams. They may not be able to say that it IS Martin, but they may be offered to refute the testimony of the fact witnesses who say it is the voice of Zimmerman.

Regardless of the testimony about the person calling for help, and the bias of those witnesses, the evidence in the case of blood is undisputed. We have testimony that Zimmerman’s blood was not found on Martin. This would suggest that if there was a confrontation it was not sufficient to transfer Zimmerman’s blood onto Martin.

However, perhaps the most compelling evidence is this picture of Zimmerman, which shows a trail of blood running from the top of his head, forward and being his ear.

zimmerman blood behind ear

The only way this blood could run forward would be that Zimmerman was leaning forward. However he was positioned, Zimmerman could not have been lying on the ground, facing upward, when his head was cut and the blood ran forward, toward his ear. If on his back, when his head was hit, either the blood would run straight back or perhaps down his neck, but in no event would it run forward.

  1. I know there’s technical equipment and technology today that can determnine to the decible if its Z or Trayvon! wth are these people doing?

  2. Malia, was any of this evidence (re blood flow) brought up by the prosecution? If not, can you think of a reason why it wasn’t?

They introduced the picture, but didn’t really talk about the flow of blood. They could be waiting for Zimmerman to take the stand,or simply talke about it in closing

  3. The fact is, there is NO TM blood on GZ. End of discussion. Even TM’s hands had no blood after “pounding” GZ’s head onto the pavement.
And some type of miraculous ability to turn over after receiving a fatal heart shot to the CHEST? Really?
TM was “on top” of GZ – was shot in the chest at close range – and he didn’t BLEED on him? And someone GZ ends up on top of TM, and pulls his arms out to the side? AFTER the shot?
And the defense is trying to prove that TM actually pulled his arms in while dying – which is so much BS that it’d fill a room.
There is so much wrong with all of this. Who screamed is not a big issue – forensics are a big issue.
The case will rest on who presented the best forensic evidence – and if the jury could even comprehend what it meant.

  4. Sorry I wasn’t clear.
GZ shot TM while TM was on top of him.
“somehow” TM fell over (with no blood transfer) and turned onto his stomach and GZ pulled his arms out to the side and THEN TM pulls his arms underneath him while GZ is sitting on his back???

All while TM is bleeding out?
    This is not justice.

    1. steve,
What great news! A friend told me that he wasn’t and the stated reason is he wants to run again for president and is afraid if he loses the governor’s race it couldn’t run for president. Evidently Maddox, another Republican has already raised a lot of money and is planning to run for Pres.

  7. The blood trickling forward is from when GZ was astride TM after the shooting. I agree that the people listening to the tape are biased and balance each other out. Somewhere I heard a tape of Martin’s voice and it was considerably lower than Zimmerman’s. They will probably introduce that if it is verifiable.

I think the state will bring its audio experts in rebuttal to discount all those who said it was Zimmerman’s voice as they can’t say whose voice it is, but they can say who it is not.

    2. If Zimmerman had bled from the head while on his back on the ground (when the injuries were sustained), there would still be blood that had flowed toward the back of his head. There is none…all of the blood on his head has flowed toward his face.

  8. Everyone is biased in this case which is only natural. You are not going to get GZ to provide details which may incriminate himself and friends and family aren’t going to do that either (for TM or GZ).

Here’s my take on the case…

    1) GZ pursued TM believing he was acting suspicious. I don’t believe race had anything to do with it. The MOST he should have done was kept him under surveillance and waited for authorities to arrive.

    2) TM felt threatened by GZ pursuit and attacked him (one make a self defense argument here).

    3) In the struggle TM noticed GZ was armed at which point a struggle for the gun occurred and TM was shot.

So I believe it’s an unfortunate set of circumstances, but I don’t believe GZ is guilty of Murder in the 2nd Degree. Had GZ not been armed I think both would be alive today. Had GZ not pursued TM I believe both would be alive today. The doesn’t mean he stalked and killed TM intentionally.

However, that doesn’t mean GZ isn’t guilty of something. If no criminal charges stick then I’m sure he’ll be slaughtered in civil court.

  9. Man, that gravity thing is a MFer. So what position would George’s head be in to make that line? Oops, those lines. I’m thinking the assistant defense attorney will argue it was during an outgoing tide, and the blood flowed up. All kidding aside, those lines and the lack of Martin’s blood on Zimmerman really paint a picture for the prosecution’s case.

    1. The defense can argue that gravity, like evolution, is “just a theory.” This approach resonates with fundiechristian types who don’t “believe” in science unless it “makes sense” to them personally and doesn’t conflict with church dogma. Let’s hope none of them are on the jury.
