Sexual Assault by Police in Anchorage

Officer Dave Parker of the Anchorage Police Department called me back today to inform me that one statement that he gave yesterday was incorrect.  He explained when I returned his call that the attorney for Sarah Palin who asked the Anchorage Police Department to issue a press release to the National Enquirer,  was not in fact Thomas Van Flein, as Officer Parker had reported yesterday.  It was another attorney from Van Flein’s  firm, John Timessen.  I posted a clarification on this blog right after that call.

What I didn’t know was that Officer Parker, and Police Chief Mew, were having a really busy day.  Today was the day that Officer Rollins of the Anchorage Police Department was led out of court in handcuffs, having been convicted of four counts of rape which occurred while Officer Rollins was on duty and in uniform.

Police Chief Mew said:

“The good news about the APD is we do something about it,…A good and honest department is one that investigates itself.”

Like Rollins, other police employees have been caught in the past having sex on duty, Mew said, but unlike Rollins none of them were found to have committed crimes.  Whew!  What a relief to know that the other Anchorage police officers were having consensual sex while on the job, instead of committing rape.  What a relief to know that some of those having sex on the job didn’t lose their jobs.  With unemployment at a record high, the loss of a job in Alaska could present serious difficulties. After all having sex on the job only incapacitates a police officer temporarily and then he is able to return to full capacity to protect and defend.  Rollins was also convicted of “criminal use of a computer.”  I wonder if it was the same computer confiscated from Shailey Tripp?

A spokesperson from the Anchorage Police department said:

“By no means are police employees perfect … but when we make mistakes, we’re held accountable,”

I am sure that as soon as Chief Mew and Officer Parker get a chance they will investigate the Anchorage Police Department with regard to the Shailey Tripp arrest, the evidence seized but not examined, and the press release the police sent to the National Enquirer, based upon the request of Sarah Palin’s attorney.  Given the challenges faced by Chief Mew and Officer Parker of having to investigate the many examples of sex on the job, I now understand why they didn’t have time to investigate something so trivial as prostitution charges against a woman being paid for sex as compared to women who were raped by police officers.

After all Police Chief Mew has gone on record as saying that the Anchorage Police Department’s Mission is to

“…protect and serve our community in the most professional and compassionate manner possible.  I am proud to lead the men and women of the Anchorage Police Department who not only take pride in our mission and the community we serve, but strive to continually improve the quality of life for the citizens.  After all, the public has justifiable expectations that the police should make citizens feel secure in their community.”

I wonder if the women of Anchorage are feeling safe and secure tonight?  I wonder if the male officers in the Anchorage Police Department have learned their lesson?  Maybe they should teach all new recruits the motto:  “Only Consensual Sex While On the Job.”  Maybe they should teach the new officers in the evidence department the motto:  “Only examine evidence that Sarah Palin, or her attorney, tell you to examine.”

Lt. Dave Parker and Chief Mew have had a really bad week.  Given the problems facing the Anchorage Police Department this week, issuing a retraction to the National Enquirer is certainly not at the top of their list.

  1. O.K., so I was a little wrong……

APD is the coffee, donut and sexual predator crew.

Still does nothing for attracting people to Alaska.

Have you thought about calling John Timessen to ask him why he called the APD telling them to issue a press release? And why he thinks it’s part of their duty to issue the release based on a supermarket tabloid and blogs? Enquiring minds want to know! ; )

I think the answer is clear. Palin wanted to have a way to support her claim that Todd was innocent. She never said he didn’t have sex with Shailey Tripp, she simply repeated what the APD said which was that there was “no evidence”.

Can you imagine if the Chapel Hills, NC police department issued a press release regarding the National Enquirer stories during the Edwards scandal? “We’ve confiscated sex tapes from Hunter’s former residence and we haven’t viewed them or anything but John Edwards isn’t mentioned anywhere so back off.”

But please, please, do keep yourself and family protected. I don’t want any harm to come to you. The Palinbots and even more so, the money makers behind Sarah, really concern me.

    I hope I’m over reacting, but I don’t think I am.

You are right,…I understand there is risk to revealing the truth. The more that I learn the more threatened I feel. However if they have to be fearful of one lady, in Dallas, with MS, whose claim to fame is being a Palintologist, their problems are much greater than mine! Thanks for your concern! If attacked, Gabby Giffords is here in Texas, so I can get really good medical help. Malia

Yes and it only took five rapes to get them to do something about it and as we know “investigating yourself” is always the way to keep yourself “honest”. The day I arrived in Alaska someone instructed me to never get in a car with a cop here and I was almost 50. I myself have observed cops in Alaska trying to pick up girls who are walking. Then I told the girls to stay “the hell” away from those cops. There are problems like this in many states (and I have reported similar problems in other states), but just like everything else in Alaska they keep their heads in the sand.

I’m so glad I didn’t know about this when I came to Anchorage for the book signing event. I was so foolish that I called to advise the police about the fact that I was coming, and that there might be a demonstration at the book store. It never occurred to me that the biggest threat might come from the police themselves. Malia

First I would like to tell you how much I love you. I have kept up with your blogs without commenting thus far. But now, I feel the need to. These recent revelations from the APD require more investigation from those in higher posititions than the responding officer. What appeared to be a legitimate investigation of prostitution in Anchorage, has now become a cover up of the clientele of prostitutes in Anchorage. I am sorry, but, that does not fly. They need to clean up their acts and do their jobs. I will write more later. I just wanted to throw this in now. If they don’t use the itiems they confiscated to uncover the truth, then they are accomplices. Pure and simple. Go to work APD. Or be investigated later for covering up crimes.

Now that this case has finished up in Court and Rollins was led away in handcuffs (I hope in those Arpio Pink Cuffs hanging around the station), that it appears to me that Chief Mew and Officer Parker have some free time on their hands. It’s only Wednesday. Looks like on Thursday and Friday there’s lots of time to deal with the trivial details of checking the evidence – you know – those pesky cell phones and the computer for numbers and names!! Oh my, we wouldn’t want it to be a Roledex as we wouldn’t want to think Chief Mew or Officer Parker could get a paper cut!!

I’m sure they also have several other moments of free time to issue a corrected Press Release directed to the National Enquirer and ‘Others!’. You know – One of those Press Releases that any one of us can find ‘filed on the Press Release Webpage of the APD’!!!!

  9. I’ve seen Timessen’s name before, yet Googling reveals ONLY 3 links to this post and 2 links to his office address. That is a deliberate paucity of information. Has someone been website scrubbing? Lawyers are notoriously private, however, there are usually references to political donations, museum/library/hospital openings (pillar of the community stuff), and the occasional legal case. Nada. Not even a donation to McCain/Palin!

Why did his name jump off the page?

My very migrained memory has him as the owner/renter of a building or suite (California?) that is/was occupied by a couple of ladies who are Palin cronies from way back, and the matter involved shell companies, DBAs and monetary transfers. I Googled because I wanted to refresh my memory. Maybe it is conflating two people with similar names.

So now I’m curious AND frustrated and I want to find out who this man is, and why I recognized his name.

If the police in Anchorage jump when he makes a phone call, I suspect local researchers are curious, too.

THANK YOU! Paideia is the name of the shell, one of many (I’m envisioning shell macaroni stuffed with dollar bills)… and it indeed has a lawyer (disbarred) behind it. I hadn’t read this article before.

Besides this fake consultant (how many has Palin hired?), there was something else going on at that address. Didn’t someone from Palingates actually drive out there and photograph the building?

With a company name, we have something more solid than my migrained memories.

  10. “the attorney for Sarah Palin who asked the Anchorage Police Department to issue a press release to the National Enquirer, was not in fact Thomas Van Flein, as Officer Parker had reported yesterday. It was another attorney from Van Flein’s firm, John Timessen. ”

Malia you are a wonderful person and I appreciate all your efforts and everything you do. I do understand why you are printing this Who called the APD, What’s on second, I Don’t Know is on third story. I truly believe that you will agree with what I am about to say regarding printing the APD / Van Flein story and it is very admirable of you as a journalist to print the APD’s latest statement. I do understand if you did not leave your comment to my statement.

With that said, whether it was Thomas Van Flein himself, John Timessen, Moe, Larry, Curly or Joe who called the APD, it really does not matter. What matters is that it was a member from Van Flein’s firm who called the APD and chances are pretty high that anything that has anything to do with Van Flein’s “bread and butter” (the Palins) has to have Van Flein’s approval or disapproval. In other words Van Flein is paid to answer Palin’s 3am phone calls and if he doesn’t, I’m sure there are plenty of other lawyers who has their names on the top of their firm’s letterhead who would be more than happy to take Sarah’s 3am phone calls from one of her two Blackberries.

So the million dollar question is who do we think Sarah has on speed dial, Van Flein or Timessen? Now if you or I called Van Flein’s firm, we would get the receptionist and then we would get whoever was available. I wish someone from that firm would correct me and tell me Sarah Palin is like everybody else and has to call between 10am and 3pm to the receptionist desk and has to settle for who was not out to lunch and believe me I would call them a big ass liar and America would agree with me too.

As far as the Palins goes, the buck stops with Van Flein, he is the one who answer to Sarah Palin. So who do we think makes the decisions on how to handle the Palin’s business? Is it Timessen, Moe, Larry, Curly, Joe, the APD or Thomas Van Flein himself? Is may have been Timessen who called the APD, but we know who drives the bus.

  12. OK. Apparently it is spelled Tiemessen, and he has shown up all over anything having to do with the Palin family, including being “loaned” to Joe Miller for his recount efforts. (What that must have done for his ego!)

How odd for someone who does only PERSONAL INJURY (70% medical malpractice and 30% product), to handle the Palin’s trademark correction (trademark law), the Alaskan recount for Miller (constitutional law), asking for back child support from Levi (family law), and dealing with Palin & Cole’s alleged stalker (criminal law)! About the only thing he hasn’t helped them with is property law! Maybe. If Sarah continues to treat him like chattel, he might refresh his memory. ;^)

Is he also on permanent retainer to the Palin family? Does he have time for any personal injury cases? Or is he patient?

Now we know why the computer and cell phone files were not checked. They might contain records of on duty officers having consensual massages on the taxpayer’s time. Their Workman’s Comp claims might be interesting too. Now we have two women charged, but the cops can visit prostitutes while on duty. So this is Palin’s version of feminist rights?

Did you see my question from an earlier Parker post? I’m curious to know how this person sounded when he was recounting this incompetence/cover-up to you. Did he sound bored, like it was just another business call? Forthright? Contrite? Nervous? Squirrelly? Ashamed?

    1. Lidia17,
Sorry I missed that question. Officer Parker sounded as if he just wanted to set the record straight. It sounded like he didn’t have all the records, and was left to find records, but looking them up on his computer. It sounded as if there was more than one case number for this matter, and he may not have known that at the time. My impression is that someone told him to respond and issue a press release without giving him all of the information. I want to think the best, but after learning about the Rollins matter and the fact that Anchorage police could have sex on the job, and still have a job, is pretty amazing to me. Malia

My opinion of Boehner is that he really doesn’t want the speaker job as his lifestyle, drinking, smoking and screwing, can’t stand up under close scrutiny. Now we’re talking the APD, they also have issues with the National Enquirer and as you’ve just reported they can’t stand up to close scrutiny either. We now know they screw and probably drink, so do they smoke too?

As soon as the accusation was made the governor’s office stated that their was some glitch or some such nonsense…we saw in Egypt that they could simply cut off the internet. It’s getting creepy out there.
