Sex Trafficking in Alaska With Todd Palin

 

Sandy Parnell, the wife of the Governor of Alaska, described Sex Trafficking as “modern day slavery.”  Trafficking occurs when people are forced or coerced into the commercial sex trade. Sex traffickers use vulnerable people who have histories of abuse and then use violence, lies, false promised and other forms of control and manipulation to keep their slaves involved in the sex industry. Trafficking has been prevalent in a variety of venues, including massage businesses.

Shailey Tripp has a history of abuse. She was destitute and responsible for two disabled children. Without help or support from relatives, she was particularly vulnerable to manipulation by a man who pretended to be her friend. In her book Boys Will Be Boys, Shailey Tripp describes the way that Todd Palin manipulated her and caused her to become his prostitute. It is unconverted that Shailey Tripp was involved in the business of prostitution. Ms. Tripp describes in detail the coercion by Todd Palin of her into a life of prostitution. The only difference between a woman who is a prostitute, and a woman victimized as a result of sex trafficking, is the recruitment and coercion by a pimp. That is to say that if a woman becomes a prostitute, and works for herself, she may have felt destitute and alone with no alternative to poverty than to engage in selling sex. However if the woman is manipulated, recruited, and coerced to become a prostitute, the pimp becomes responsible for taking advantage of a destitute person, and facilitating the sale of sexual services for his personal financial gain.

 

The state of Alaska has created a task force with the purported aim of gauge the prevalence of human trafficking and prostitution in Alaska. The legislation is sponsored by Gov. Sean Parnell.  It is ironic that Sean Parnell was copied on all my correspondence with the APD regarding their involvement in commenting on the National Enquirer story and the “press release” that the APD issued, implicating the APD in the Todd Palin scandal. Sean Parnell did nothing. Shailey Tripp’s book has been in print for over 6 months, and she has specifically identified Todd Palin as her pimp, and at least one member of the Anchorage Police Department as a customer, and no arrests have been made. Officer Rollins is in jail today as a result of on-the-job rape of several women, and the city of Anchorage has paid over 5.5 Million Dollars in settlements as a result of assaults and  rapes by Officer Rollins while in uniform,  and Police Chief Mew is still supervising the other police officers still on duty. He is known for insisting that only consensual sex on the job is allowed.  He draws the line at rape.

 

There are more than 5000 brothels in the United States disguised as massage businesses.   Annual revenue from sex trafficking in the United States is estimated to be $32 Billion, which translates into about $87 million a day. Human trafficking is tied with arms dealing as the world’s second-largest criminal enterprise, with drug trafficking being the number one. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), estimates that 800,000 people are trafficked into sex and forced-labor situations throughout the world every year.  It is estimated that 100,000 children are forced every year into the sex trade in the United States alone. Thus the total number of people who are currently victims of sex trafficking is in the hundreds of thousands. 

As outrageous as this form of slavery is, the only thing worse is a government that pretends to condemn the activity while protecting those who benefit financially from the lifestyle.  When Homeland Security protects Todd Palin and David Chaney by not releasing documents that might disclose the true nature of their unlawful deeds, the Federal Government becomes an accomplice.  When the Governor of Alaska pretends to care about victims of sex trafficking, but fails to take action on the allegations against Todd Palin, the state government of Alaska becomes complicit in the wrong doing.
