The Only Thing We Know For Sure About the Birth-Mother of Trig is that Sarah Palin Lied

Anyone who has heard the name “Sarah Palin” knows she has a son, Trig, who has Down’s Syndrome. The night that she was introduced at the Republican Convention she paraded him for everyone to see like a prop or trophy.

Trig has served as a constant advertisement for Sarah on her position on abortion. From early on there were many questions raised about whether Trig was actually her natural born child. The number of absurd and inconsistent facts gave support for the controversy. Just a few of the unbelievable things highlighted have included :

 Nobody noticed she was pregnant even those closest to her in her office.

 She didn’t tell anyone, including her children, that she was pregnant until she was supposedly 7 months into the pregnancy.

 Pictures of her when pregnant before were inconsistent with the image of a “pregnant” Sarah Palin.

 During the same time that Sarah would have been pregnant, Bristol was “out with mono” and missed 5 months from school.

 The fact that there were no pictures from the hospital’s web site of Trig Palin.

 The story told by Palin of the early labor that began in Texas, the two flights to get home to Alaska, the fact that Alaskan Airlines employees never noticed she was even pregnant, much less the fact that nobody on the planes noticed that she was in labor, was unbelievable. Even if Sarah was not concerned about the health of her child, most women would be afraid to board a flight if they even suspected they were in labor.

 A person met and talked to Todd Palin in the airport between flights on the way home from Texas, and saw Sarah reading a book, but had no idea she was pregnant or in labor.

 No birth certificate has ever been produced for Trig.

 Palin didn’t list Trig on her insurance until a month after he was supposedly born.

 Shailey Tripp gave Sarah a massage when she would have been 6-7 months pregnant and didn’t notice she was pregnant, and Sarah never advised her that she was pregnant.

 Palin’s flight from Texas landed in Anchorage. The drive from Anchorage to Wasilla is approximately one hour. Anchorage has a neonatal specialty unit which might be necessary for a premature child with Down’s Syndrome. Mat Su Regional Hospital where Trig was supposedly delivered does not.

 Cathy Baldwin Johnson, Sarah’s physician, lived in Anchorage, so it would have been easier for her to have Sarah go to the hospital in Anchorage when she landed to determine her condition, and progress if she was in her labor. Instead Sarah drove for an hour to the Mat Su Hospital in the middle of the night where she met Dr. Johnson, and didn’t give birth until 6:30 am, the time for shift change.

 Then there is the problem with inconsistent pictures of Trig’s ear, to suggest that we have seen two babies instead of a single child.

 Medical authorities agree that the length of labor tends to decrease with each child, so that a mother in labor with a fifth child would likely have a short labor.

 All of the other four pregnancies of Sarah Palin had been the typical 9 months.

Given all this information it obvious why there are so many questions regarding Palin’s claim that she gave birth to Trig. Although many ideas have been suggested about the birth mother of Trig, it seemed very clear that Sarah was not Trig’s birth mother.

I have not been an active participant in this scandal. However in my attempts to learn as much as possible about Sarah Palin, I have found recorded interviews of Sarah Palin, shortly after the birth, that are directly inconsistent with the story of the labor and delivery that she has told later.  Here is the interview that took place within days of the alleged birth. Upon listening to the discussion in this interview done within three days of Trig’s birth, Sarah Palin made the following comments that are in direct opposition to statements she made at a later time.

1. During the interview she said Trig was born at the Mat Su hospital. In a speech in Waco Texas she said he was born in Anchorge.

2. During the interview Sarah Palin said that

“if I felt at all if I was engaged in labor …I would not have desired to fly “.

She went on to say:

“I am not a gluten for pain and punishment, I would never have wanted to travel if I had been fully engaged in labor. “

She described what was happening as “easy” and relaxing”,… “not contractions.”

However in many accounts of the events in Texas, the flight, and the subsequent trip, Palin has suggested that she WAS in labor. In Going Rogue she indicated she was in labor while giving her speech. At page 194 she states:

“Then I took the podium and opened by teasing the audience about how great it was to be in our “little sister state of Texas.” Big laughs. More contractions.” “Then I handed the mic back to Rick and walked off the stage. “Hey,” Rick drawled over the sound system with a chuckle, “we’re not finished with the program!” I turned around, smiled, waved, and kept moving. “I know you’re pregnant,” Rick said joking into the mic. “But don’t tell me you’re going off to have the baby right now!” The audience laughed. I smiled and waved good-bye, I thought, if you only knew.”

3. During the interview Sarah said that neither she or Todd could tell that Trig was a child with Down’s Syndrome. However she later said that even Willow knew when she first looked at Trig that he was a child with Down’s syndrome. Here is the actual quote:

“ As Todd and their three daughters gathered around the bedside (Track, an Army private, listened in by phone from his base in Fairbanks), Willow said of the new arrival, “He looks like he has Down syndrome.”

Palin, who says her own qualms were laid to rest “the minute [Trig] was born,” felt a lump in her throat. “If he does, you know you will still love him, Willow. It’ll be okay.”

Willow pressed: “But why didn’t you tell us?”

Palin admitted she didn’t know how to break the news. “I was a little shocked,” says Willow “but I don’t care – he’s my brother and I love him.”

Given this disparity the pictures of Trig’s ear are even more important.

The problem with lying is that you have to remember the lie if you are going to repeat it over and over. We now have proof that Sarah Palin has a poor memory for the lies she has told. Despite the number of factors that have given rise to the controversy about the true birth mother of Trig, it is easy to understand why people don’t know what to believe. Given the proof of the lies of Sarah Palin about Trig’s birth, it seems the only conclusion that we can be sure of is that Sarah Palin lied.

  1. something that makes me sick about her adopting Trig for her charade is that…

Trig will never have the ability to be smart enough to expose this when he gets older. Palin will make sure of that.

  2. So CBJ had to drive from Anchorage to Mat Su late at night to deliver Trig? I didn’t know that detail. This story just gets curiouser and curiouser every time I read about it. I’m a neophyte in the babygate saga, so learning more all the time. (Just started reading these blogs about a month ago.) A terrific summation, Malia. You’re hitting on all cylinders today.

    1. Jolene,
Yes, the story Palin tells is that her dr., Cathy Baldwin who practices in Anchorage drove to Wasilla in the middle of the night only to deliver the baby at 6:30 am. I don’t know of any dr. that would do that without the patient first being examined by a nurse and telling the dr how far along she was and specifically how dilated she was. Something unusual was going on. I think its also significant that none of Palin’s records were ever produced during the campaign, and the letter of her dr was produced the day before the 2008 election. Every time I learn another part of the story, it stinks even more. Malia

  3. Thank you Malia for getting us back to basics and the original purpose why we’re all pulling together on this thing.

Jesse Griffin contends that Mercede knows nothing and would tell him immediately if she did. I’m not about to call him a liar and it’s really unimportant anyway. Let’s keep focused. And so here’s a message I’ve left for him to publish on his blog:

O.K. kids, hands up now for everyone who thinks that Mercede and Levi who was Bristol’s boyfriend when she had Trig, doesn’t know who the real mother is?
    ——————–
I would like to pose the same question here on your blog. Have we lost track of our common sense and our senses along the way? Has everyone become so weary with this deception of Palin’s that they will accept any wild theory?

    1. Michael,
I think you are right. The real question is whether Trig is her child or not. If he’s not, I don’t really care who’s child he is, I care that Palin lied about it and used him.

      1. Malia, There is absolutely no doubt that Palin did not have a baby. Zero, zilch, zip. What I’m having a hard time understanding is why anyone would doubt themselves and not come to that conclusion. It’s not helpful.

Although it doesn’t matter to you who the mother of the child is, it does matter to me and I would suggest it matters very much to many others.

If the truth on who’s child he is is lacking then the proof you want on the fact that Palin faked a pregnancy is never going to be revealed. That you need to understand in my opinion.

The Palin family will look like fools and liars. Especially Sarah, Todd and Bristol. The others seem to want to stay away from their drame.

  5. I have always questioned the Trig story. I also blog on Voolvex. com. I find Sarah Palin’s fantasy world very fascinating and her various children quite strange. I am waiting for Joe McGinniss’ book because he is very good at telling it all.

I have been under the impression that airlines did not allow women in such an advanced stage of pregnancy to fly and for good reason.
I also thought she knew he had Down’s and why she would “surprise” her children with this is very strange revelation.

I find Bristol’s baby story quite bizarre as well. Tripp bears little resemblance to anyone I can see – he is a blonde, blue eyed boy who looks a lot unlike the Palin side – .

  6. Very good post. And welcome to the very large circle of us who have followed this story since we first googled Sarah Heath Palin to find out something about her since McCain had just announced her as VP candidate. (Actually I already recognized the name and knew a little as I had read the article in Vogue in late Jan./early Feb. when my subscription was delivered. The reason the story about her pregnancy and the doubts about it was so prominent on the web and Palin’s Deception (the first blog I ever went on) came up is that the story had already been circulating in Wasilla and Anchorage and Juneau for months prior to late August 2008. She can say what she will, but the story did not originate with the Democratic Party or Democratic operatives, or President Obama’s team; the story existed because of the incredible tale she wove and the lack of supporting evidence that she appeared pregnant.

Too, Malia, loving Laura Novak’s blog today and a picture (from a different angle) of that appearance on the RNC stage that I have never before today seen. It sure seems to add to the story.

  7. Couldn’t she have at least said…I thought I was in labor, but it stopped after we left and so we went ahead an got on the plane. She could have said she started to get anxious, but once she got to the airport she felt fine. There are any number of explanations that would sound more realistic than what was offered…what are the stats on behavior of women in labor and their decisionmaking about consulting a doc or going to the hospital? I assmue most women, except those in oppressive situations with difficulty accessing healthcare or getting assistance, would think about the safety of their child and themselves before getiing on a long plane rid…than again, this family is reckless when it comes to contraception, letting young daughters go on coed camping trips, etc, so maybe they are more willing to take risks with unborn children.

    1. Laura,
If anything most mothers err on the side of going to the hospital too soon. I know that once I was in labor with each child, I laid by the clock hoping that I could go to the hospital sooner than later. Of course you can’t predict how the contractions are going to progress, so that is why the doctors don’t tell you to come in within a certain amount of time, they tell you when the contractions are a certain number of minutes apart. Also, have you ever heard anyone talk about how dilated she was. That would be another medical indication of how far along she was, but we never heard that in any of the discussions. Again, that makes me think she wasn’t pregnant.

      1. Palin may have heard details for Trig’s mother’s delivery because she said she was induced and then talked about how easy it was. Any woman who has had labor induced via Pitocin is NEVER going to describe it as easy. It’s labor pains going from ZERO to 60 MPH within seconds, very painful! She tried to say Trig was so small and while 6.2 lbs is below average, a baby that size does not come easily no matter what!

In Bristol’s book, she talks about how Todd told her that her new brother was going to be a special needs child and yet in Palin’s Going Rogue, $arah describes a conversation she and Todd allegedly had when she realized Trig was going to come early. In this alleged conversation, she remarks to Todd about how they hadn’t yet told any of the kids and tells her not to worry and that they will be fine with it. Not a word about Bristol knowing. Bristol called her father after Willow supposedly found an EPT test in her mother’s bathroom and yet we’re to believe she didn’t tell Willow what Todd said and didn’t say anything until Trig was allegedly born? Just more bullshit from this family. They can’t keep all these lies straight and they are in black and white printed under their very own name!

      3. I think this is probably true but not sure if my perception is more based on my own experience and observations than what is reality. It is probable that there are “educated” women that are more willing to take risks with birth of their children. For example, there are women who feel more comfortable with having the baby with a midwife at home, even though there is a good reliable hospital in their community (before sanitary conditions were improved in hospitals with hand washing etc long long ago, women who had a baby in a hospital often died). I know someone who lost a child with a midwife at home (in part to save money due to no insurance) and being at the hospital would have likely saved the child due to delay in getting the necessary assistance when the baby was in distress. However, a woman who has had several children should have better intuition about need to get to the hospital or get medical attention. I think Palin is more willing to take risks and exhibits poor critical thinking in her decision-making (at least if we use the Trig birth, if it he is her biological child, as an example). However, I suppose to survive in Alaska, you need to be less risk averse and less prone to panic, in general. On the other hand, is there a chance she felt there was more “security” from the media at Mat-Su?

    2. Laura, when you are pregnant, the most important thing and the only thing on your mind most of the time is the baby you are carrying. The first thing most (rational and yet emotional – emotional about the baby’s welfare) women would do in the situation she described (after experiencing some leakage – of whatever kind – and some contractions) would be to go to the nearest medical facility just to get “checked out” even if nothing came of it, even if was a “false alarm” before going through with a speech or with any agenda for the rest of the day!

  9. I knew the first time I heard the story of this child’s birth, as related by Sarah Palin, that it could not possibly be true. I’ve had three children of my own and worked for 26 years with newborn infants and postpartum women. So much about this story was outlandish. Bypassing better equipped hospitals in Texas, Seattle, and Anchorage so you could give birth in a tiny regional hospital without a NICU, (newborn intensive care unit), and no neonatologist on staff? That makes no sense at all or it was abusive. Take your pick.

She said she knew the child was premature and had a disability, both conditions require the services of a neonatologist and a NICU. But she chose to deliberately endanger this child’s life by giving birth at a hospital lacking the needed facilities and bypassing dozens that did, that should have been investigated by Children’s Services.

Every woman knows with each successive pregnancy you show sooner, I’ve had moms having their fourth baby joke about showing when they got out of bed the morning after, but this woman having her fifth child claims to have not shown until well into her seventh month?! I call bullshit. Loudly.

I also don’t think she knew Bristol was pregnant – at that time – or the cheapskate WOULD HAVE KEPT the empathy belly… and that would explain Bristol’s beyond bizarre lumpy appearance at the RNC Convention in 2008. I’ve seen little girls play-pretend “pregnant” and do a better job of filling out their little shirts than they did with Bristol that night!

Now that I can show Palin was being untruthful about the birth of her child, I didn’t feel hesitant to post this article. Thanks for your support! Malia

  15. I used to be a NICU nurse. CBJ is a family physician, not an obstetrician. I don’t believe she would have jeopardized her medical license by attempting to deliver a premature DS baby with a cardiac defect. Unless it was unavoidable, a decent hospital would not ALLOW it. A high risk delivery would have been transferred to a Level 3 hospital with a NICU, and would have had a pediatric cardiologist available. I believe CBJ somehow got sucked into writing that letter, and I have not seen anything where she actually claimed she delivered him. I call bullshit, too!

  17. The photo at the top of the page breaks my heart – for a certain reason. I’ve never said anything before about them, but today I’m going to share my thoughts.

As the mother of a special-needs child (almost 30 yrs old now!), I learned very early that you have to monitor all kinds of damaging behaviors the child may unknowingly engage in. In that photo, and many, many, many others from that night, you see Trig looking UP AT THOSE VERY BRIGHT LIGHTS, staring into them – this is very, very damaging to the retina.

As an infant, my daughter was also fascinated by bright lights. In fact, her first word was “ite” – for light. Soon enough she grew out of that, but – I was aware that she’d be trying to do that sort of thing – so I looked for it and nipped it in the bud when she started. Look at any photo of Trig that night (that he isn’t strangely “sleeping”), and he’s STARING into those bright stage lights.

It is soooooo sad. Who’d let their child just STARE into blinding lights like that? $arah.

When I saw her parading Trig like that in front of the camera, I immediately knew that she worse than other politicians. To use her gender and her child in that way was so offensive to me that I knew she was willing to do anything to promote herself. Just the way she held him made it clear that he was there for only one reason. That was to advertise Palin’s position on abortion. He was being used as a prop, and every mother watching this should have been offended. Malia

      1. I couldn’t agree more, and I only was pregnant/gave birth once. Her version always reeked of either inexcusable indifference to her baby or total B.S.

This is why I struggle with the frequent debate on these boards about those (of us) who entertain SP’s version. I know I do it on occasion FOR THE SAKE OF MAKING THE ARGUMENT. In my experience discussing this with people, the MOST effective approach is always to relate SP’s version of the Wild Ride. It ALWAYS opens them up to the possibilities that she was faking …. something. Very conservative friends have heard this story and looked positively nauseated.

On the other hand, if I just lay it on the table that I think Palin has perpetrated this level of hoax, people look at me like I grew another nose. For those who haven’t followed this story at all, it’s so unbelievable that a high-profile politician/personality could get away with it, so it immediately falls into conspiracy-crazyland. (The success of the hoax, as we all know, requires outrageous hubris on the part of Palin and her associates, PLUS complete negligence on the part of the media. And to those who don’t pay close attention, they can’t fathom that reporters who pee their pants over Anthony Weiner’s, um, issues wouldn’t be on this story like a robin on a worm.)

Anyway. Malia, I appreciate your real dedication to getting at truth, especially with your great, consistent care in documenting everything.

  18. Here’s the story Malia, print it here or not, it’s up to you. Jesse Griffin has been told the secret by Mercede on who is the mother and father of Trig. That is seen now in his avoidance of the issue of babygate and the fact that he screens out all comments from me that talk about him and Mercede being in cahoots.

Bristol is a very promiscuous girl, we all know that now. Some would say so promiscuous as to it being a mental problem. The cause of this in her upbringing could be investigated at a later date.

Bristol is the mother of Trig. Simple logic tells us that the baby has to have a blood connection to Sarah Palin. Add to that the logical conclusion we come to when we know that Bristol disappeared for 5 months with ‘mono’ and was not seen during that period of time. And add to that the rumours of Bristol being pregnant that were spread around Wasilla high school at that time. That was the easy part that everyone should have stopped doubting 2 years ago.

So who is the father? Why is there a feeling that there is a need for protection of the secret among the Johnston family? Why are they being held hostage by the Palins to keep the secret? Could there be any doubt that Mercede knows the truth when she and her brother played a part in welcoming the baby home, as we evidence in some pictures with Sarah and Mercede and the baby? What did Mercede mean when she called Trig ‘their brother’? Who’s your daddy? Where’s baby daddy now? If the baby daddy was in bed with a teenager then why weren’t charges laid? If that were the case then could the reason be that it would have become public and damaging to the underage girl and more importantly to the grandmother’s career? Why does the Palin family hate the Johnston family? Really, why??

    Babygate solved!

So what are the further ramifications now? Can it ever be revealed? Would it damage Sarah or hurt her? Who is ever going to tell?

    Cheers, Michael.

  20. Malia, Gryphen can’t tell because Mercede can’t tell. Or at least she wasn’t supposed to tell, according to the arrangement that was made to protect the baby father. That’s why Jesse Griffin continues to pretend that he doesn’t know the secret. I’m supposing you now know who the baby daddy is. The arrangement was made because criminal charges could have been brought against the baby father. The downside of that is that it would be hugely damaging to Bristol’s psycological wellbeing and more importantly, it would destroy the grandmother’s political ambitions. It does however come to mind that there is probably a statute of limitations on statutory rape charges. That could open a few doors to Mercede who is seething over the issue. Most likely not though because she is protecting the baby daddy’s rep.

If our cause of discovering the truth over the father and mother of Sarah’s baby can’t be pursued further by Gryphen then what’s the use of any of it now? Other than keeping a money making blog going for the profit.

Why did she “deliver” Tri-G in a podunk hopsital without a NICU?. Why as a FPP was she even Sarah’s OB? Did she have the requisite continuing education and skill pratice to perform an emergency C-section if mother or baby got in distress? As required by the AAFPP?? These are serious queations that need to be asked and no one is willing to ask. Can you ask?? These are serious public safety questions if CBJ is still practicing. So the issue is dead unless it’s pursued with some sort of vigor by one of the blogs. Your attempt was good with this post but interest flags quickly.
The death of the issue could be the biggest motivation for Palin to throw her hat into the ring now. However, if she did then it’s possible that interest could be renewed. I think she may have won the battle and I never did expect it would be handed to her by Griffin. Therein lies the danger of making a pact with the devil. That being Mercede.
