Sarah Says, “Seat Belts are for Sissys”

Sarah Palin is notorious for saying that the government should “Get out of the way.”  Most conservatives that heard this and agreed were probably not considering the fact that the government is responsible for providing such necessary services as national defense of the country, ensuring the safety of our food and drugs, providing police and firefighters when needed, and even providing air traffic controllers to guarantee the safety of our flights. One of the most basic of laws that the government provides is the regulation of American highways. From setting speed limits to mandating the use of seat belts, the government serves a vital function regarding our highways. Sarah Palin objects to even laws regulating speed and use of seat belts. In Sarah Palin’s Alaska, she flaunted the lack of use of seat belts or car seats by her son, grandson, and daughters. Even when Todd was driving and wearing his seat belt, Sarah was often riding along totally unrestrained.

In his book Blind Allegiance ,Frank Bailey explained:

“ In distrust for rules, Sarah mirrored Todd. For Sarah, less government extended to liquor, gun, helmet, cigarette, and even seat belt laws.”

Sarah said:

“Heck,I don’t even agree with Click-it or Ticket seat belt laws,…” (Pg53-54).

To say that she loves her family and loves the people of Alaska, but doesn’t support seat belt laws is contrary to the law and to logic. Accidents are the leading cause of death among children and adolescents. Automobile accidents account for the largest number of these accidents. Use of car seats, booster seats, and seat belts use are critical to limiting these deaths. State Farm is the largest insurer of autos in Alaska and in the nation. State Farm has raised its car insurance rates in Alaska due to an increase in automobile accidents. State Farm explains that “car crashes are the leading cause of death and injury to children, but using car-seats appropriately can greatly reduce the risk. Palin’s children are at risk for many things, and injury in an automobile is one.

Sarah Palin is openly defiant of laws she doesn’t like. From seat belts to hunting and fishing licenses, we see a form of rebellion and arrogance that is inconsistent with the notion of loving America. Palin’s bus tour has reinforced this image. The bus is accompanied by two smaller SUVs. All three speed, the bus and the two SUVs, run red lights and stop signs. They often don’t signal, and change lanes at the last minute, without signaling in an effort to avoid being followed by journalists. Those journalists trailing her on the “One Nation” tour bus describe the experience as harrowing, a rolling menace careening up the East Coast in hot pursuit of the former Alaska governor who declined to provide any advance itinerary of her tour.

Admittedly there have been times in American history when people we now identify as “heroes” (e.g. Rosa Parks, ) intentionally broke the law.

The difference between Rosa Parks and Sarah Palin is that Rosa was riding the bus to demand equality of treatment, and when Sarah Palin’s bus ignores traffic laws she demands to be treated better than the “average” American. Palin complains about the “elite” in this country. From celebrity attention to a net worth of $12 Million Dollars, Palin IS part of the “elite.”. Even the “elite” have to follow traffic laws. Bill Gates’ chauffeur follows the traffic laws, and I bet Bill wears his seat belt. Palin seems to have an attitude of “in your face.”

In Anchorage, it appears she controls the police, causing them to issue press releases whenever her attorney determines that one is needed.  Alaskan government officials seem to be unaffected. They even allowed Palin to make $2,000,000.00 from the filming of Sarah Palin’s Alaska, even though it was admittedly a political advertisement and detrimental to the people of Alaska . Now her outright defiance of the highway safety laws is evidence that she thinks the law doesn’t apply to her, and that she is unconcerned about the safety of her children. When she was described as “going rogue” that may have been a more accurate description of Sarah Palin that we knew.

  1. Objection, your Honor! Malia Litman is attempting to circumvent the laws of evolution and Darwin. Granted my client is, um, professes to be a creationist. But, she has lived in, claims to have been in, the wilderness of Alaska and seen the culling of the herds. So let us not be hasty in disrupting the process of natural selection. Let them ride without helmets and set belts to infinity and beyond.

    1. …as long as we, the people don’t have to pay the medical bills when they crash. She wants to throw a kid through the windshield? She should have to personally care for that child the rest of his/her life.

  2. For those who follow Palin’s mantra, think about this statement an ER nurse made a while back when she arrived late for a dinner party. “Some no helmet asshole left his face on County Road 17. We had to put it back together, so he can do it again.” There’s a lot of negative energy when you know something you fixed is just going to be broken or destroyed completely again.

  3. Malia – Why doesn’t law enforcement stop and ticket all of the vehicles involved in these dangerous violations? In many jurisdictions in Florida, the drivers would be arrested and have to bond out of jail. That is what Karma is all about. Those are the consequences of disregard for & violation of the law. Arrests would be appropriate – Reckless Driving – at a minimum.

    1. thomas,
I don’t know why Palin and/or her drivers are not given tickets, but the reality is that the failure of the police to ticket her reinforces the attitude that she is above the law. Malia

  4. The Queen makes her own rules. Can you imagine her in a position of authority? She would probably gut ALL regulations of all industries, because she really does think that left to their own devices, “Americans will use common sense.” Right. She has none, and wouldn’t use it if she did. She is a menace to her kids and the entire nation. Congratulations, Sarah….you made your way into the elite net worth category without a brain in your bewigged head.

  5. The reason why there should be a seat belt law is so that Medicaid will be denied to anyone who morphed into V-8 Juice when they were not using a seatbelt.

These people invariably/eventually have their long term health care paid by the state/feds. The exception should be:No seat belt, no assistance.

  6. She also has Julia O’Malley of the ADN beside her. Defending her at every turn, and lying about the pictures of Sarah Palin’s un-pregnancy as being photo shopped. She came to her defense in babygate and said she knew people who had seen Sarah’s belly at the Gym when Granny Quitter was on the treadmill. Shouldn’t a journalist at least have a direct quote from these mystery seers?

  7. Great post Malia. You’re adding to the voluminous library that will be one sarah palin’s (and the rest of her pigs at the trough) infamous history on a national stage that was unearned, undeserved but, absolutely deservedly, the most despised in REAL american history.

Her downfall will be great when it comes. MOST DESERVEDLY.

  8. Malia, you wrote, “Sarah Palin is openly defiant of laws she doesn’t like.”

I think you could have stopped that sentence after “laws.” SP pushes on all boundaries of state and federal laws becaue they are inconvenient to a ‘rogue’ (in the true sense of the word).

yes but she did like the Alaska law she signed into law giving a tax credit to film companies that would feature an Alaskan resident.

  9. Wasn’t Willow just caught speeding an ironically wasn’t it just one mile under the law where she would of been in deep shit?

Laws were made for other people but Karma is a bitch. Right Rep Weiner?

The Palins can get away with the small crimes, we are waiting for the ones that requires a bright orange overall.

  10. Excellent post, especially the last parargraph. Sarah and the people in power in Alaska who are covering her tracks are doing wrong by the people of Alaska. Everyone’s rates have gone up to pay for their willful ignorance. I wish no harm on anyone, especially her children, but perhaps a better idea than putting a teen in a racecar on a reality show, would be to have them visit the trauma wards and the damage wreckless disregard for a law can do. But we’re talking about Sarah here, and that would take the focus off of her, and she just won’t allow that, ever.

I know seat belts are not sexy, and it would be easy to overlook this, but the reality is that its not so much about seat belts, but an attitude.

it is unforgivable for her not to buckle her kids in,and if she were an”average” person and chose to break the law, that’s her choice. However if she were a real “leader” she should set an example.

  12. Is it any surprise that various Palin teens used and abused alcohol under the legal age limit, vandalized government property, used oxycontin, and broke in and trashed an unoccupied home? You can bet they learned from Ethically-Challenged Grizzly Mama that the laws don’t apply to THEM, either.

Just wait until Piper is 13 or 14. She’ll probably make the first three look like angels.
