I'd gladly produce my medical records for you to answer that question,if Sarah Palin produced hers! I hear she had a tubal? What about Trig? If Trig is her natural born son, why did she refuse to produce any of her medical records before the election?

Is that so Malia. So tell me, how many abortions have you had? Im sure you would have no problem being transparent since you are a champion of the cause and there is no shame in being pro-choice right Malia?
So, how many?

Cecelia,
It is so important that Planned Parenthood continue to be able to provide services to young women, and the GOP seems intent on limiting any future help they could provide!

Planned Parenthood provided me with excellent prenatal care when I had a baby at 15, which I kept, and is now a 25 year old college graduate today. They provide a necessary service to women and girls that save and improve female lives. We have to fight to this wave of misogyny, and self loathing that the Palins and Bachmanns of the country are trying to ride to political success, to keep the rights earned for us by past generations, and to safeguard for our girls coming up today.

Speaking in terms of the history of the human race, as you call it, since when has being a "mother" been a choice? Do females of the human species have strange magical powers that I'm not aware of, that allow them to "choose" if they become pregnant or not after they have sex with a male, either willingly or by force?

Go visit Africa today and see poor women whose bodies are ravaged by repeated pregnancies, miscarriages and births. If they are lucky to get care by a qualified nurse or doctor, the caregiver will likely try to convince some of them to tie their tubes, over the objections of their husbands. Many countries in Africa are lifting themselves out of poverty by empowering women, which includes control over their own reproduction (i.e. condoms, pills, abortion, gynecological care).

Birth control is a modern invention, but an absolutely necessary one, given the fact that women cannot otherwise control their own reproductive cycles. Abortion, while sometimes controversial, is a legitimate part of this, and has a long history. It is even mentioned in the bible with taking bitter herbs causing miscarriage.

No one knows why human beings evolved to became fertile. All higher species, including primates, have relatively few births. A human female is capable of having 20 births, or more, from the point of puberty to menopause. Was the ancient environment for early humans so hostile that most infants did not survive and frequent ovulation was necessary? Did a small group of early humanoids experience a random mutation which increased their birth rate, and therefore their dna became dominant on the planet? We don't know. All we know for sure is that today, the our human survival does not require hyper-reproduction. In fact, it requires the opposite.

Your words Joan. You say once you" "exercise" that "choice" so what say you about rape or incest? Abortion has happened since the beginning of time. It will continue to happen.
By the way I am pro choice no matter what the circumstance.

I've really had a blessed life. I was the first child in our family to go away to university. Neither of my parents graduated from the 8th grade because they were needed to help out their families. It didn't matter how poor we were, my daddy always had a newspaper for us to read. That started my path of being "intellectually curious" and I still pursue that path at 67 years of age.
I served on the board of directors of Planned Parenthood in Oklahoma City for 5 years in the 60s. I volunteered in the "packing town" clinic every Friday for 3 years. Planned Parenthood wanted to see "wanted children" then just as we do now.

In the 80s I quit my job as a therapist and went on the road with my camera and my dog, Fuzzy Tippy. Together we put 300,000 thousand miles on two Silverado trucks. I was the first "wo-man" to "infiltrate" the world of rodeo cowboys on the Indian reservations and I was also the first "white" woman to work there.

I am going full circle now and will move back to the family ranch in Oklahoma soon. I still have my camera with me but Tip died in 2001 so I won't have the wonderful companionship that I enjoyed with him for 15 years. When I get there I intend to do two things. One is to find the first clinic that serves women and volunteer. The next thing is promote candidates for the Senate and House ,of Oklahoma, who will, hopefully, work for women in the state house. Oklahoma is going in reverse for women now and if I can affect that just a teensy bit......that is what I'll do.
Great speech, Anna Q. Thank you for doing what you do.
