The really funny thing is that Romney lost to this loser in 2008.
Make no mistake. Sarah Palin would like to be Mitt Romney’s V.P. pick. During her brief appearance on the Today Show, she was asked a direct question by Matt Lauer regarding her thoughts about Mitt Romney’s pick for Vice President.
Matt said:
“When you were plucked from obscurity in 2008, you’d been Alaska’s governor about two years,”
“You didn’t have any real experience on the national stage, and in this era of intense media scrutiny, you took some lumps. You had mixed results, as we all know. Do you think, if Mitt Romney is the nominee, he should choose someone with more experience on the national battlefield than you had at the time?”
Attempting to defend her record Palin said:
“Well, you know, I would put up my record as a CEO of a city, of a state, as an oil and gas regulator, up against any of the other potential GOP vice presidential nominees last go-around,”
Suggesting that she has always been the “victim” of the “mainstream media” Palin said:
“I would say it doesn’t matter if that person has national level experience or not, they’re going to get clobbered by the mainstream media who does not like the conservative message. And it doesn’t matter if that person has been a known commodity to the mainstream, lamestream media or not. The GOP ticket, to tell you the truth, Matt, doesn’t know what’s coming. They don’t know what’s going to hit them in terms of double standards being applied to them and the positions that they hold, and the records that they are running on from, you know, personal family issues to anything else. There will be that double standard applied no matter who it is.”
Mitt Romney served his entire term as Governor of Massachusetts. Palin quit. Romney has a JD/MBA from Harvard. Palin earned a 4 year degree in 5 years from Idaho University in communications. Yet Sarah Palin has the audacity to “advise” Mitt Romney. She said:
“ What I would advise Mitt Romney, or whomever the nominee would be, don’t necessarily play it safe, and do just what the GOP establishment expects them to do. And that is, to get somebody kind of just going along to get along, not willing to go rogue and get up and say that we need relentless, and we need sudden reform of our government to put it back on the side of the people.”
However in case the importance of the choice of Vice President was not clear, Game Change made that clear.
The most telling indication of Palin’s chance of being picked as Romney’s running mate was an interview with John McCain. McCain laughed at the possibility of Romney picking Palin, and warned that Romney should not “rush to judgment” when picking a running mate. Watch McCain laugh at the idea of picking Palin.
If Palin is lucky, Mitt might give her a ride on the top of his car.
A preview is out of the movie Game Change, starring Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin.
We live in a country where film and television are critical to the perception of any candidate. Fortunately the Undefeated was a disaster at the box office.
Looking at Amazon.com it appears DVD sales have been equally poor. Sarah Palin’s “Undefeated” ranks as the #6400 in Movies and TV DVD sales. However the popularity of “You Betcha” seems to have been equally poor. The inevitable conclusion is that Sarah Palin is old news, and it appears people are through with her.
Maybe it was the foolish things Sarah Palin has done and said over the last three years that caused people to dismiss her as a real candidate. Maybe it was the taunting of our President, when she declared GAME ON, only to announce she was not running, that caused people to no longer take her seriously. Some of us will never forget her claims to have fought corruption her “entire political career,” and then watch as she has ended her political career after only serving for two years as Governor, and commit multiple ethical violations during that short time. Regardless of the reason, America is tired of Sarah Palin.
Game Change will be a movie about the HISTORY of the 2008 election. It will give us a chance to reflect on the specific, documented, 23 examples of mental illness of Sarah Palin. It will give us a less biased view of Sarah Palin. Especially because Sarah Palin has suggested that there is “still time” for her to enter the 2012 race, it will be good to be reminded of why voters were so afraid for her to occupy the White House in 2008. It will serve as a reminder of how dangerously close we came to allowing someone so inept to occupy the White House. As we approach the 2012 election, Game Change the movie, will serve as a reminder that regardless of your political ideology, at a minimum we should demand that any candidate we elect to be our President is educated, informed, mentally stable, honest, and ethical. Sarah Palin was not the Game Change McCain hoped to find, and she will not be the Game Change in the future; except perhaps in a Disney movie.
In 2010 eighty-eight percent of voters felt that the national economy was in bad shape. Two years earlier, at the end of the Bush Administration, a record 92 percent of voters felt the economy was in dire straits. By November 2010, only 14% of voters felt their own family’s financial situation had improved since 2008. Twenty-nine percent of voters in 2010 reported that someone in their own household has lost a job in the last two years. Nearly two of three voters picked the economy as the single most important issue in their vote – and they voted 53-44 percent for Republicans for House. It was the first time since 1992, that economy voters favored Republicans. The Republicans were given a chance to address the economic problems. Instead of working to solve the problems, they have made them worse. When there was a real issue about whether the United States would fail to raise the debt ceiling and thereby default on our debts, the markets reacted and have not recovered. Remember when Michele Bachmann, a Republican leader at the time, advocated defaulting on our debt, which had already been incurred? Remember how the market responded even before the critical deadline had passed?
At the beginning of this year the President appointed the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform. That commission has been meeting since April 27, 2010, and this bipartisan commission has failed to propose a solution that could pass the Republican dominated Congress. Thus it seems that the Republicans are incapable of making a dent in the economic disaster that has come to define our world today. As the financial crisis in Europe becomes an increasingly real threat to the United States, stabilization of the American economy has taken on more importance and urgency. Certainly the importance of the economy in the 2012 election will be paramount. Americans are beginning to realize that the Republicans seem to be more focused on their own re-election than working toward solving the economic crisis facing the country. The Jobs Bill that was proposed by Obama, was not passed by the Senate because Republicans were afraid it would help Obama get re-elected. In other words, Republicans did not actually want the economy to improve, as better economic times might inspire re-election of President Obama. Thus the Republican Party wanted the economy to remain in bad shape, thinking that bad times would help them get reelected. Clearly personal political aspirations replaced the commitment of many Republicans to find solutions to America’s many economic problems. This trend was apparent when John McCain picked Sarah Palin, not because she was the most qualified, experienced, capable vice president, but because he thought she might be able to help him win the election. Now many Republicans seem to be following that same strategy. They would rather risk disaster in the country than do anything that might reflect positively on President Obama.
American voters may be slow to catch on, but after a year of a Republican-dominated Congress proving themselves to be unable or unwilling to improve the economic crisis in the country, we are fed up! The potential Republican candidates have proven …repeatedly….that they are not the solution for which we search. Republicans have rallied behind the womanizer who has established himself as the most ignorant politician about foreign policy ever to appear on the national stage.
Republicans continue to look for another candidate. For awhile there was that crazy woman who was at the top of the polls whose greatest accomplishment was taking in a lot of foster children.
Then there was the excitement surrounding the debate-challenged, racist, sexually diverse, part-time Governor, from Texas.
Now a man named “Newt” has become the most popular, in spite of his trifecta marriages and his distinction as the first speaker in history to resign after the House sanctioned him for ethics violations.
Thus, it is not surprising that the Democrats are now earning higher favorability ratings than their Republican counterparts, 40% to 30%. Perhaps this is not an indication that the Democrats are perceived as having all the answers, but instead they are at least looking for solutions. While looking for the solutions to the global economic crisis, the Democrats are not attempting to tell us who we can marry, what medical procedures and vaccinations we are required to have, or the identity of the supreme being to whom we should pray for a solution to the economic crisis. The nomination of Sarah Palin signaled the decline of the Republican Party. The rise in popularity of Bachmann, then Perry, then Cain, and now Newt, is tangible evidence that the decline of the Republican Party has reached catastrophic levels. With Sarah Palin’s help, the damage done may be irreversible.
The recent story in Politico made headline news in papers and television stations across the country. It is difficult to evaluate the importance of these allegations without the perspective of a female attorney. There are several considerations that are not being reported by the sources that have covered the story.
1. The fact of a sexual harassment lawsuit is not the critical consideration. There are many attorneys who have little to do, and filing a suit and settling for a “nuisance” value may keep the attorney in business. In the real world, men and women proposition each other all the time, and it has nothing to do with their employment, but often occurs in the context of an employment relationship because people spend more time at work than in any other venue. The fact of a “five figure” settlement suggests to me that this was a “nuisance” value suit. Although “5 figure” could range from $10,000 to $99,999 , but anything under $50,000 would indicate a “cost of defense” type of settlement. It is also the common practice to require that the terms of any settlement remain confidential, as the defendant would have little benefit from settling a case if they were going to have to repeatedly defend themselves. One significant question is the number and frequency of claims asserted against Herman. There is a huge difference if he has faced one claim or 15. It is the pattern of sexual harassment claims that is of greatest concern, when we are not able to know the particulars of any given claim.
2. The more troubling aspect of these allegations comes from Herman Cain’s response to the reporter when asked about the allegations. He asked the reporter, “Have you ever been accused, sir, in your life of harassment by a woman?” The implication of the question is that men are the victims of unfounded claims all the time, and that women are the enemy. The question itself indicates that Cain has had significant experience with sexual harassment claims. Cain’s unwillingness to respond to the reporter’s question regarding an unidentified woman is also troublesome. It’s as if he is unsure which sexual harassment claim he is referring to because there are so many. Cain leaves the listener with the impression that there are so many claims, that he doesn’t want to respond unless the reporter identifies specifically which one he knows about so that Cain can respond to those particular allegations, and protect himself from disclosing information about the others.
3. When asked about the allegations, Herman Cain indicated he was “vaguely familiar” with the allegations. This choice of words suggests that he didn’t take the allegation seriously. Even if the allegations were unfounded, any CEO or politician should take the allegations of sexual harassment seriously. To act as if this was the claim of some crazy woman, is offensive. The woman may be crazy or over-reacting to behavior of Herman Cain, but the fact that a woman was offended enough to file a suit, should indicate to any man that they should consider their behavior and learn from the event. Even if Cain meant nothing by his conduct towards a female employee, the claim should have been taken seriously, and taught him a valuable lesson: The way he interacted with female employees was perceived by some as offensive.
4. Finally, the most important observation is that we haven’t met Herman Cain’s wife Gloria. He has been married to Gloria for 43 years, and she never appears with her husband on the campaign trail. Certainly she has the right to stay home. However when we elect a President we are electing a President and a First Lady or First Husband. The spouse of the President is an important position. From national influence to global relations with foreign leaders, the first spouse holds an important position. Even more telling is Herman Cain’s choice of wives. Having spent the last 43 years with one woman, getting to know his wife tells the electorate a lot about the type of woman he values. When Senator Obama was running for President there was a significant difference between the image of Michelle Obama and Cindy McCain. Michelle is an educated, articulate, compassionate woman. It was clear that Barack Obama respects his wife, and she him. Cindy McCain appeared to be a trophy wife. She may be as educated, articulate, and compassionate as Michelle Obama, but it is clear that John McCain didn’t choose her as a wife for those character traits. Remember the story of John calling Cindy a “c*nt” in public? The relationship between Herman Cain and his wife is much more critical to his candidacy for the Presidency than a single suit for sexual harassment that was settled in the “five figure range.”
Both John McCain and Roger Ailes are in their 70’s. McCain was born in 1936.
Ailes was born in 1940.
Both have been married more than once. Both married their current wife when she was at least 20 years younger.
Both picked palin. Ailes admits he picked her because she was hot.
The innuendo is that McCain picked her for the same reason.
Sarah Palin has promoted default on the national debt. Yesterday she went even further by threatening the newest members of the House by sending a “warning” to freshman Republicans not to forget the promises made to voters. She said in a Facebook Post:
“I respectfully ask these GOP Freshman to …remember us “little people” who believed in them, donated…
We cannot default but we cannot afford to retreat right now either. Now is not the time to retreat, it’s the time to reload.”
“Everyone I talk to still believes in contested primaries.”
Thus the celebrity, the one with the fire in her belly, the Governor who resigned to make millions, the one who has not presented any plan of her own, the one who says “we cannot default” , and the one who says she doesn’t want the debt ceiling raised is hindering resolution of the crisis. She has increasingly become part of the crisis.
The proposal submitted to the Republicans was described by Harry Reid as a “Big Wet Kiss for the Right Wing.”
Even John McCain has tried to explain to Palin and the freshman members of Congress, is that the debt ceiling is not the place to make a stand.
Yesterday McCain explained that we may need a “warning shot” which may come today as markets react even more dramatically to the debt crisis.
In October of 2008 there was a question asked by some Republicans whether Sarah Palin was incompetent, stupid, unqualified, corrupt, or all of the above.
If the answer to that question wasn’t clear then, it is now! The answer is “all of them” which has become Palin’s answer to questions she doesn’t know the answer to.
