It’s funny that in the same article that includes a question to Newt suggesting that he doesn’t have the necessary discipline and focus to be the President, Huffington Post also reports that Newt and Perry have not filed the necessary 10,000 signatures required to be on the Virginia primary ballot. Oops! The deadline has passed and write-ins are not allowed in the primary race in Virginia. Oops! It seems that if there were a single state where Newt would “focus” on the requirements for running for President it would be his own state of residence, Virginia. Oops!
Rick Perry’s campaign has not yet offered an explanation. Maybe Virginians didn’t like what they saw in Rick Perry.
Maybe they will be the next state to have a nuclear waste dump built if Perry should be elected?
Merry Christmas!
Guess what House Republicans are focused on.
Are they pushing through legislation to get Americans back to work? No. Are they fighting to improve our education system? Nope. Perhaps they’re too busy repairing America’s roads and bridges, making vital investments in infrastructure? Wrong again.
They’re using their majority in Congress to wage a war on women’s health and freedom.
Last week, they passed the Protect Life Act, which is curiously named since it does precisely the opposite. This bill would override core patient protections and allow hospitals to legally deny life-saving treatment to women.
You read that right: It would actually allow hospitals to let women die without treatment.
I spoke out against this bill last week in Congress, and I recorded a message for you, too.

If this bill were to become law, it could mean the difference between life and death. Just ask my colleague, Congresswoman Jackie Speier, who testified earlier this year about needing an emergency late-term abortion.
She told us, “I was pregnant, I was miscarrying, and I was bleeding. If I had to go from one emergency room to the next, who knows if I would be here today.”
This is a bill that would deny women in Jackie’s position critical care and put their lives in danger.
Democrats will be on the front line — fighting back and holding Republicans accountable — from now until next November. The Women’s Leadership Forum will support that work at every step, and we need you to join the fight.
This latest bill is just one more example of why we Democrats do what we do. We work to protect the rights of women, children, and families when others won’t. And we focus on the issues that middle-class families are concerned about.
If Republicans truly care about protecting life, they can work with the Democrats to rebuild our nation’s economy, put Americans back to work, and improve everyone’s lives.
But instead, we get this — a bill that does nothing to address the financial crisis or create jobs, but only serves to rile up their base and chip away at women’s rights. And they think they’ll get away with it.

Republicans and Democrats agree on virtually nothing. They do agree that if the debt limit for the U.S. is not raised, we would be inviting economic catastrophe. People on both sides of the aisle have always recognized that default on the national debt would be devastating to the United States, and to the global economy. Since early June it has been documented that even approaching the deadline without a resolution would have an impact on global markets, even if a resolution was ultimately achieved. We have seen proof that the markets have already been affected by the delay in reaching a resolution of raising the debt ceiling. What markets once thought financially unimaginable has now become politically possible. Because the unimaginable is now imaginable, the U.S. economy may never be perceived as secure or as stable as it once was.
Most polls contemplate a Republican and Democratic candidate. Thus candidates like Mitt Romney, Michele Bachmann, and Sarah Palin are often lumped together. However the fundamental assumption of these polls is that there will only be two parties involved in the 2012 election. Consider the possibility that Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin might run as Tea Party Candidates. Bachmann is chair of the Congressional Tea Party Caucus. Sarah Palin has been called the “darling” of the Tea Party.. In February of 2010 Palin was invited to give the keynote address to the Tea Party Conference. During that speech she referred to the Tea Party as a “” ”beautiful movement.” Just this week it has been announced that Palin will give the keynote address on Sept 3rd at the Tea Party rally in Iowa.
Unlike the Republicans and Democrats, Bachmann and Palin have been outspoken critics of raising the debt ceiling. Bachmann said: “ I am committed to not raising the debt ceiling.” Palin has also said that she doesn’t want the debt ceiling raised. While it seems inevitable that the debt ceiling will ultimately be raised, it will be in spite of Bachmann and Palin. It seems predictable that anything negative that happens in the economy will be cited by Bachmann and Palin as a reason we should elect them. While neither can claim responsibility for authorship of any bill or proposal to deal with the debt, it is likely that they will blame politicians on both sides of the aisle for the problems in the economic status of the U.S. Palin has long been recognized as not doing things conventionally. I predict she will engage in an “unconventional” campaign as a representative of the Tea Party
The Washington Post provided graphic details demonstrating why Michele Bachmann might feel comfortable disparaging Sarah Palin. They report that 64% of people will NEVER vote for Palin. The following graphs and data are very enlightening. Palin’s overall favorability rating has plummeted to 31.4%, and her Unfavorable rating is at an all time high of 59.9%.
The following table shows, by category, people who would definitely NOT vote for Palin. It comes as no surprise that the majority of Democrats indicate they would NEVER vote for Palin. What will help all of us sleep at night is the fact that between November 2009 and June of 2011, in EVERY category of voter the percentage of people who would definitely NOT vote for Palin has risen by at least 10%.
I don’t see Michele Bachmann as a viable candidate. She doesn’t have the name recognition that Palin does. The good news is that something is working. Over time people have begun to realize what a threat Sarah Palin would be in the White House. However people seem to have very limited memories, so we must remain vigilant until it is clear that Palin is no longer a threat.
John Edwards has been indicted for criminal offenses alleging that he improperly used campaign funds to support his mistress and “love child.” The attorney for Edwards adamantly denies the allegations. Certainly if Palin is allowed to use PAC money to pay for a family vacation, then Edwards may also be able to justify how he spent campaign money. Maybe Arnold should run for office again to get his campaign donors to pay for college for his love child.??
This is an interesting round table discussion regarding Sarah Palin. They agree that the world is not big enough for Bachmann and Palin. They also report that Democrats would be thrilled to have Palin as the opponent of Obama. She is not a strong candidate in the general election, and what she is doing will not broaden her base. Thus there is real question about what she is doing and why.
Just in case you thought the only people who were opposed to Sarah Palin were “elitist”, “liberals”, or members of the “lamstream” media, check out this article by a conservative.
Thousands of citations have been referenced on this blog. Over eight hundred citations were included in my books, Rebuttal to the Rogue and The Ignorance of Sarah Palin. From the first day I began writing about Sarah Palin I perceived that it would be important to provide references in order to justify everything I have reported. Why would anyone believe me if I couldn’t justify and document the basis for everything I have written? Why would anyone care what I thought if I could’t support my conclusions with facts? If only I had talked to God, he could have been the source and the justification for any political views I might have. More importantly, with the endorsement of God, how could anyone disagree with me….or with God?
The error in my logic was that I was thinking logically. The mistake we make is to assume people, and voters will behave logically. I made the mistake of thinking that all I needed to do was to present the facts, and people would be persuaded. I was wrong! Everyone reading knows that everytime we have read a comment that someone submitted in support of Sarah Palin, they have NEVER sent a single source of information to indicate that anything I have reported was incorrect. Instead, the response has been to attack me personally, disparaging my appearance or heritage.
Religious beliefs are not based upon logic; they are based on emotions. Logically there is nothing different about December 25th from any other day of the year. However when I think about December 25th I am filled with emotions associated with joy, family, charity, and a sense of peace on earth. As a child I looked forward to Christmas for the entire year leading up to this magical holiday. As a parent, I spend months planning, shopping, and anticipating the joy my children might experience on this special day. It didn’t matter that we were raising our kids Jewish. Santa Clause came to our house, even though logically, St. Nick wouldn’t visit Jewish kids. Religion, whatever your faith, is not logical. However holy, devout, or reverent a person may be, and no matter the positive and charitable benefits of religion, we must agree that religion is not logical.
Certainly religion is a very important part of the appeal of Sarah Palin. Regardless of whether she is in fact a “good Christian” her alignment with God is unquestionably part of the attraction of Sarah Palin. Palin herself has indicated she talks to God and the Holy Spirit whispers to her. In Facebook posts she makes reference to Biblical characters. She has indicated that she is comparable to Esther, and David in the story of David and Goliath. Her “Blood Libel” comment reminded us of religious persecution. Even the title of her recent book America by Heart: Reflections of Family Faith and Flag was a purposeful attempt to focus her fans on her “devotion” to religion. When I share a criticism of something Palin has done or said, people react by suggesting that I “hate” Sarah Palin. The clear response is emotional not logical.
Gallup has completed polls that indicate that America is increasingly becoming a conservative nation. The study demonstrates that states with more conservatives are considerably more religious than liberal-leaning states. There is a “considerable” correlation between conservative political affiliation and religion. Two other findings are also significant. Conservative states tend to be less educated states. Conservative states also tend to be less diverse. Thus, America’s least well-off, least educated, most blue collar, most economically hard-hit states tend to be conservative states. Liberalism is associated with stronger in richer, better-educated, more-diverse, and more prosperous places.
Obviously, if we are to persuade others of our political views, we can’t rely upon logic alone. However understanding that Palin fans are not thinking “logically” but instead reacting “emotionally” may be the key to “converting” them. Perhaps we have a clearer understanding of the reason conservatives focused so much on Rev. Wright in the 2008 election. It would be interesting to ask Palin fans the following:
- If Sarah Palin can talk to God, why does she need to hold an elected office? Why doesn’t she just tell God to fix the economy and if she is one of God’s chosen, why couldn’t she fix everything?
- If Sarah Palin believes that the secret to military conflict is to pray that our military is on a “task from God” then why wouldn’t we pray for that in Libya?
- If Sarah Palin speaks for God, then why does she have so many problems speaking? (i.e. refudiate, misunderestimate, squirmish)
- If Sarah Palin is actually a good “Christian” woman, then why doesn’t she devote herself to doing good for charities instead of increasing her personal wealth? Why is it that the only organization to which she has donated her time is the NRA and she has failed to donate any time or money to an organization to the National Down’s syndrome organization?
It is more important than ever to encourage educated people to get involved in politics and to vote. If we are to make a difference in our government, we must take an active role. Together we can make a difference.
Republicans and Democrats seem to be committed to ending the deficit. It’s just not true that Democrats want to continue to spend in excess of our means. This article make some excellent points to ensure that Democrats are educated to enable them to participate in the debate
