It’ hard to believe that we have two political parties in the United States of America, and that for one of the two that Mitt Romney is the best the Republicans have to offer as their candidate. After the choice of McCain/Palin in 2008 it is amazing that the Republican Party hasn’t learned from it’s mistake. While I am socially liberal, I would prefer to have stronger candidates nominated by the Republican Party, as it only makes our country stronger to have the best possible candidates running for the office of the President of the United States. The potential candidates of the GOP were pathetic. The only one of the group that seemed a reasonable choice was Jon Huntsman, and he dropped out long ago due to lack of support. Think about the alternatives presented after Huntsman dropped out! Thank God they didn’t nominate Michelle Bachmann, the dancing fool,
Newt Gingrich, the serial adulterer and the man in the moon,
Rick Perry, the fool who couldn’t remember three things,
or “Herb” Cain, the ladies man
As the Republicans found Romney more appealing than these embarrassments to the Republican Party, the GOP found other embarrassing candidates in Romney and Ryan.
1. Shortly after Romney’s choice of Ryan as his running mate we learned that Ryan had to authored a bill with Todd Akin regarding “forcible rape..”
2. Akin made the world aware of his perception that if any woman was legitimately raped, as opposed to illegitimate rape, that the woman could “shut that whole thing down.” It was because of those comments that we gained an appreciation of the concept of “forcible rape.”
3. Romney only endorsed one Senator, Mourdock, who said that if a pregnancy resulted from rape, it was God’s will.
4. Romney endorsed Obama’s foreign policy positions on Iraq, even though Romney was originally in favor of war. He congratulated Obama on killing bin Laden even though Romney said it wasn’t worth moving heaven and earth to find one man.
5. Romney has only released two years of tax returns, and the one released for 2011 failed to take advantage of certain deductions that would have resulted in an effective lower tax rate for 2011 than 14%. By waiting to take the deduction after the election he still gets the benefit of the deduction for the tax year 2012, and earns interest on the money paid.
6. Romney has chosen Robert Bork as his adviser on the judiciary. Bork is the single best reason to vote for Obama.
7. Romney has a car elevator for his car in his vacation home.
8. Romney suggests that he is in touch with the economic concerns of women in America because he is married to a woman, even though she has never worked a day outside the home, and has never been responsible for supporting herself, or her children.
9. Richard Grenell was hired as a member of Romney’s campaign staff and later resigned due to pressure from Republicans to resign because he was gay.
10. Mitt Romney so opposes abortion that he tried to guilt the mother of four children into risking her life even though leaders of the Mormon church had already given the approval for the medically necessary abortion to save the life of the mother.
11. Seamus, his dog, was strapped in his dog crate to the top of the family car.
12. Romney has flip-flopped on so many issues that it is hard to count all of them.
13. Romney used such poor judgment that he had Rick Perry campaign for him after Perry called him a “vulture capitalist.”
14. Romney insulted the British over the Olympics.
15. Romney has complained about the high rate of unemployment when he was responsible for shipping jobs overseas.
16. Romney complimented the people of Michigan by praising the height of their trees.
17. Romney advocates repeal of Obamacare, even though he implemented a system in his state which was almost identical to Obamacare.
18. Romney’s approach to economic problems is almost identical to that of George W. Bush, lowering taxes, and reducing regulations. We know from history that those practices resulted in a disastrous economy for the United State.
19. Romney plans to increase military spending, in spite of the fact that the military is not asking for more money, that military spending of the United States is almost as much as the total military spending of the top 10 countries in the world.
20. The only proposed cuts to Medicare or Social Security would not take place under the Romney plan until after Romney would be finished with her term, if elected for two terms.
21. Romney has a passport for his horse/
22. Romney pretends to be a patriot, but uses banks and investments overseas in places like Cayman Islands to avoid paying taxes.
23. Romney purports to be an advocate for women, but has not come out in favor of the Lilly Ledbetter Act, requiring fair pay for women.
It’s hard to imagine that in spite of these undesirable positions, Romney is still dangerously close to winning the election. It is our job to ensure that every voter for Obama has a way to get to their voting locations. As for Romney supporters, try to make them understand this election is not about Republican vs. Democrat. Instead it is about ensuring that we have a viable future for America.

You should put up side-by-side pictures of Romney’s spray tan vs regular skin color. Remember when he darkened his skin to be interviewed by a hispanic reporter? How disgusting was that?

WakeUpAmerica,

It IS hard to believe that the GOP ended up with such a dangerously flawed candidate as Willard Romney. However, because they have been assiduously courting hatred, fear, ignorance, and just plain anti-intellectualism, he is the candidate that they deserve. The plans that a Romney-Ryan team have for this country if he should be elected are regressive and inhumane, and other countries see exactly what a large number of Americans who plan to vote for them refuse to see. It’s absolutely sickening that there are so-called Christians who are willing to overlook all the disturbing flaws in this man that you have enumerated, Malia. That just goes to show that their “morality” is situational, and that they are for party first. This team’s policies go against everything that Jesus Christ stood for, and their concern for the sanctity of life that doesn’t extend beyond being anti-abortion is a mockery of His teachings.

Let me explain it here:

My opinion is that Obama, despite his popularity in 2008 only won the election because Mike Connell was called to testify before Congress the day before the election and got cold feet. Otherwise the fix was used in most elections since 2004. When Connell was scheduled to testify to spill the beans after the 2008 election, the repugnants assassinated him by plane. Connell was a “good” Catholic and he only fixed elections to “save the babies.” The Repugs who came to the crash scene took his Blackberry in which he kept all his election stealing secrets. It was never found, but the Blackberry’s case was left intact at the scene. This same fix was also used to put Scott Brown in the Senate. A similar analysis was down on that election, and the most likely possibility was electronic vote flipping.
The repugnants have Connell’s Blackberry and they use it.

The incredible stupidity of the population in the United States appalling. Their prejudice is clearly showing through. They’d rather put this dangerous demagogue in office than a sane, intelligent decent black man. If Romney is elected, this country can kiss its collective ass goodbye and the fools that voted him deserve what they get. I wold definitely look into leaving the country if he wins. The prospect is frightening.

Duchess,
Yes, the prospect is frightening, but I predict that Obama will win, and it won’t be as close as people think.

The Republicans have good candidates; they won’t use them due to their racism and sexism. Former Secretary of State, foreign policy expert, Dr. Condoleeza Rice is good enough to send around the universities to give speeches. Former head of UN forces, General Colin Powell was totally ignored, leaving the party without military leadership while we remain entangled in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, Pakistan, and Iran.
That said, give me Secretary Hilary Clinton and Dr. Rice as a presidential ticket. Get rid of the old white guys.
(Disclaimer: I’m an old white guy.)

aj,
I think Colin Powell would have been terrific, and it was disappointing to me that media said that he endorsed Obama because of race.

I don’t believe the media dissertation on this election!!! Don’t think the election is as close as they are projecting it to be. Reason – I cannot believe Americans are that stupid as to electing Romney and Ryan.

Millie,
I think the same thing, because of surveys like the early voting polls in Ohio. I think the people polled answered a phone, and if in the past they were Republican they answer by saying they are voting for Romney, but whether they will actually turn out to vote is another issue! Romney is such a weak candidate that I think even Republicans may have a low voter turn out.

I worked the Get Out The Vote phones yesterday at the district DFL headquarters. Amazing how many are still “undecided”‘ …. (rather, “uninformed.”)
One male genius told me “he ain’t gonna vote for that Obama ’cause he don’t like the way Obama handles things.”
“What things?” I inquired.
“Oh, everything” he said. So I played him by asking what his biggest concern was as I had been hearing about Obama all day.
He said, “Well he is a Commie and worships Buddha….”
Merde.
Next.
The next woman I spoke with says a lot about Minnesota “nice” as I introduced myself and the reason for my call.
“Can we count on your vote to re-elect President Obama?”
“You bet! And there are three more of us in this household!”
She thanked me for calling.
Those calls and the Romney ass hat you present so well, Malia, are the reason I held a phone yesterday with a left broken collarbone. The damn thing hurt, but I almost didn’t notice.
More calls? Next weekend?
Bring ‘em on!

It is because of people like you that Obama will win in November! Thank you for your service and dedication to making this country better for all.

It’s hard for me to believe too! I try to understand their point of view, but it seems they just don’t know, or they’d know better.

My sister, aged 51, thinks Obama stole 2008 because the media didn’t tell the truth. She is now on the Breitbart train alleging that he not only knew about the Libya attacks, but he wanted people to die? And knew the media would cover for him. She is on FB saying that she will be glad when he loses and we get ‘our White House’ back. Now this is a woman who is divorced, and lives with our mother (or she couldn’t afford her house.) She has no college degree, and works for a self-employed travel agent who plans to retire next year. How she thinks she is better off under Romney I have no clue, but she despises Obama. She spends a lot of time on right wing sites. To show her level of intelligence and critical thought, she sent me an email out of the blue this weekend with all the Benghazi allegations in caps and wanted to know how I could vote for such a liar? After spitting my cocoa on the keyboard, I read the kicker.
“Don’t bother to respond, because I won’t read it.” Wow. I hope someone calls her, but I bet she’ll hang up. I did send her three return emails from some sites, so at least she ahd to read the subject lines.
For the record, my lovely 82 year old Mom already voted, and cancelled out every one of Sis’s ignorant votes. (At least we hope so…they do live in Ohio.)

I’m sorry to hear that, Sally. It’s very hard for me to believe that anyone would be this absolute outraged about Obama if he wasn’t Black. The tea party and republicans did a really good job scaring the crap out of many people. I’m hoping some of them come to their senses over the next few years as the economy continues to recover.
I feel lucky that my siblings and my aging parents (68 and 75) are diehard progressives.

Malia: you forgot the newest place for Romneys money, the island of jersey off the coast france and britian. Where he [put 15.3 million, which he made off the bailout. The one he didn’t support,he owned 24 companys of Gm, sent them all to china.

Hey, Malia, did you see this handy chart that came out last week? It’s the “GOP Rape Advisory Chart”. It’s just what we need to keep straight many of the stupidities of Romney’s buddies regarding the subject of rape. No less than three of Texas’ less-than-stellar knuckle-draggers are included…

What do you think about the Dallas Morning News’ endorsement of Romney?
At least they endorsed Sadler for US Senate instead of creepy Cruz. Shock!

I agree with your post. This whole election starting with the primary I just kept saying “are these the best people the Republicans can come up with? I mean there have to be some intelligent Republicans. They can’t all be this lame.” I would appreciate the best people out there running for President no matter which party. To me this election is crazy. How could any reasonably intelligent person buy Romney’s BS, and Ryan is scary as sh…!

Thanks, Malia, for this Gallery of Greed … I think … (it’s awfully depressing to see how low the Republicans have sunk) …
The only thing sweeter than an Obama victory is what it would say about Republicans: that despite the vast amounts of time, effort and money they spent to defeat the man they claim is the “worst President in American history” … they STILL lost !

The problem with being a layperson “outside the Beltway” is that I didn’t recognize that his supposed goal to give the military (esp. the navy) twice what they requested was simply a slimey move to get VA to vote for him. More than 90% of what Romney has said recently is “malarkey”. It’s just about getting the votes, not about how he will govern. The ‘real’ Romney was the one “behind closed doors” making snide remarks about the 47%.

BW,
And…in particular it’s Virginia which is a swing state, and the # 1 manufacturer of navy ships and it is ships that he want to build more.
