At the outset, I understand and acknowledge that I am a biased reviewer of all the speeches given at the RNC. Tues night the much anticipated speeches given by Ann Romney, and Chris Christie might best be described as Contrived and Inspirational. Chris Christie gave a moving and inspirational speech.
The first 80% of the speech was about wanting a better future for the country and only the last 20% related in any way to Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan. The message was unmistakable. Christie demanded bipartisan support of politicians to solve the economic problems facing the country. He relied upon his experience as Governor of New Jersey to illustrate his point which was that it was possible to fix our economy, but we would all have to make sacrifices. The most moving part of his speech was his story about his deceased mother. Comparing the life of their family to a car, he explained that his father was a passenger, and his mother was the driver. ‘It is better to be respected than loved,” is the message she conveyed to him about life, and that he found to be a philosophy that worked in government. At the end of the speech I wished that Christie would be appointed to Obama’s cabinet as a person who might generate bi-partisan support for the change we need to see in our country.
Then there was Ann’s much anticipated speech. ‘Contrived’ is the word that comes to mind to describe her speech. As I watched the speech I tried to have an open mind and consider the response of the crowd to gauge their reaction, instead of relying on my visceral response to this mother of 5, and grandmother of 18, who spends hundreds of thousands of dollars on horses, has an elevator
in her vacation home for her Cadillacs, and is worth an estimated $250 million dollars. She said she loved Mitt. That was believable. Yet it doesn’t qualify as a reason to vote for him. What was not believable were her comments about what working moms want. Ann has never worked outside the home. When she attempted to connect to the audience by talking about the “price at the pump” and the cost of groceries, I was appalled that the speech writers would have her say that. Thoughts of a chauffeur, driving her car to the pump, to fill it up before Ann even appeared in the car, filled my mind. Maybe she doesn’t have a chauffeur, but she could. Maybe she pumps her own gas, but I doubt it, and if she does, does anyone believe that she goes to the station with the lowest price? Does she buy groceries, or does her chef? If she goes to the store, does anyone think she notices that the price of a gallon of milk has become prohibitive for some families?
She spoke of God, and identified herself as Episcopalian when she met Mitt. She failed to mention that she converted to Mormonism while she was a teen and about to marry Mitt. Ann probably just ran out of time to describe the wedding that her parents couldn’t attend in the LDS Church because they weren’t Mormon. The worst thing she said was:
(speaking to women) “We’re too smart and know that there are no easy answers, but we’re not dumb enough to accept that there are not better answers”
The message was that women are too dumb to solve the problems of the country, but we are smart enough to pick the right man who could. Ann doesn’t get it. The Republicans don’t get it.
Ann also insulted the fathers in the country. In her zeal to reach women, Ann said;
“ I want to talk to you (women) about that love so deep, only a mother can fathom it. The love that we have for our children and our children’s children.”
The unmistakable message was that fathers can’t love their children as much as the mother. Ann is just out of touch. In some families the father stays home with the children, and the wife works. In many families the mother and father share responsibilities of both child care and financial support for the family. To suggest that those fathers don’t love their children and grandchildren as much as the mother is insensitive and wrong!
It is O.K. that Ann never worked outside the home. It is not O.k. to suggest that she is in tune with the average American family where both spouses work outside the home. Ann lost this battle in the Republican’s war on women.
It was interesting to hear the pundits after the speech give their reaction to Ann’s speech. They praised her, and thought it was a very powerful speech. Perhaps I was too jaded by all that I have learned about Ann Romney. Or, perhaps they were simply afraid to say anything negative about this poor woman who has faced breast cancer, ms, and a miscarriage. I’ll say it. She had all of her long blond hair, so the women fighting cancer wearing scarves to cover their bald heads probably weren’t too sympathetic. She was standing and talking fluently, so the MS people in wheelchairs and unable to articulate their thoughts probably weren’t too sympathetic. Ann has five children, and 18 grandchildren, so the women who couldn’t carry a baby to term were probably not too sympathetic about her single miscarriage.
Finally, I would be remiss not to mention the signs in the audience. Hundreds of women held signs that appeared to be home-made that said; “We (heart symbol) Ann.” They were all held by women, they were all red white and blue, and they all used the same words and incorporated the heart symbol for the word ‘love”. All of the women holding these signs also had the signs for Mitt that were clearly printed campaign signs. We weren’t fooled. These signs were manufactured by the campaign, and passed out to the women in an attempt to reach women voters.
If only the Republican Party would realize that women want our reproductive freedom, not signs praising the wealthy would-be first lady. Breast cancer in Ann’s case was caught and treated early enough to save her life. We want other women to be given the same chance that Ann was given. For many women their breast cancer will not be caught early enough if they previously relied on Planned Parenthood. It was the Republicans who cut the funding for their mammograms. That MS which was managed for Ann Romney so well that she could stand and give a speech, wouldn’t be managed for a multitude of other patients if Romney should be elected and the Republicans repealed national health care.
Ann concluded her remarks by saying ‘this man will not fail.’ Mitt Romney has clearly not failed his family over the last 40 years. By destroying jobs of hundreds of Americans at Bain Capitol, he made millions for his family. It is inconsequential to his children if they are unemployed as they have trust funds to support them. Mitt did not fail them. If he should be elected and lower taxes for the wealthiest Americans, he would fail the middle class. If he increased military spending to build more ships, the soldiers who were hurt in battle may feel he failed them by not spending that money to teach them to walk. The four children of the mother whose life was threatened by blood clots might have felt he failed them by telling their mother she should not have the abortion that was vital to sustain her life. Mitt may not have failed his family, but he might fail our country.

Malia, Christie’s speech was all about positioning himself for 2016. It was self-indulgent and self-serving, and looking at him, it’s hard to believe he’ll last that long.

I think the wagons are circling for Rmoney’s defeat. Even David Brooks knows the inside info on him. No one likes him and they like Ryan even less. Christie is the 2016 nominee for the GOP. He’d better shed some of the lard, or he might not make it that long.

Stop obsessing about Chris Christie’s weight and pay attention to the fact that he is one savvy politico. He flat delivered the goods [the bads?] for the Republicans last night in a way no one else has for the last four years and he did it without the usual whine about Obama. He’s really very good at the game and is nobody’s fool.

I don’t think anyone was “obsessing” about Chris Christie’s weight but it is an issue. Even he knows it is. This time last year Christie had a quite serious asthma attack and needed to be briefly hospitalized. At the time he said:
“I weigh too much because I eat too much. And I eat some bad things too.” He had used an inhaler, but “It didn’t give me the kind of relief I normally get.”
A man of just fifty years old, he is putting himself at enormous risk for heart attacks, strokes, joint disease, etc. Voters are right to be concerned with a candidate’s health. It matters. Again Chrisie’s own words:
“I think the weight exacerbates everything,” he said after his asthma attack. “The lighter I am, the healthier I’ll be… I feel a pretty big sense of urgency to lose weight. It’s one of the major struggles of my life. I’m working on it.”
That was July 29th 2011. He has not lost weight since then. Republicans harp constantly on the subject of personal resposibility. His weight management, or lack thereof, is an affront to all the Republicans profess to believe.
I don’t believe Americans will elect a morbidly obese man to be President.

Gotta admit, I could only stand to watch part of her speech because I just wanted to slap the entitled witch. I was interested in watching the attendees faces when the camera panned the audience. The portion I watched certainly didn’t reflect either admiration or excitement for her. Many of the women actually had sneers on their faces & weren’t clapping at all. The men were politely clapping on que with little sound, much like the coal miners at Romney’s mandatory press event they were ordered to attend – and not even getting paid for it. The media was more impressed (gag) than most of the attendees.
Even PBS did a lousy job of commenting when I tuned into their coverage. They sounded more like a moderate rooting section for the GOPTP than objective coverage I was expecting. Granted, I didn’t stick around long for that either, couldn’t stand it, so they may have improved. I was tickled that the major networks didn’t cover Ann’s speech after all.
After all Romney’s switching the whole schedule around so they would cover his Goddess. LOL!

I noticed the lack of enthusiasm also. I think these women especially realize it is just a ploy to get their votes.
I saw bits of the interview where Anne and Mitt talked about his “3-pack” of shirts from Costco, Kirkland brand, and how Mitt ironed his own shirt that morning etc. How nobody helped Mitt be successful in business ( except the unmentioned money his dad invested and / or straight out give him.
Their attempts are trying to make us think they are just regular folks, watching what they spend is just too unbeliveable when they are worth —at minimum—$250,000,000 dollars.
They are so OBVIOUSLY lying that it is just comes across as a slap in the face, especially with the flip flopping on rape, war against women etc. I think a lot of republican women are going to vote for Obama or just not vote at all.
Abb;s ” Women I Love You !!!!” was sooooooo phony and stilted that I felt embarassed for her.

She’s just as creepy as every other Mormon fembot I have ever known, and having lived in SLC, UT I have known lots of them. Their church and their husbands tell them exactly what to do and think, 24/7. They never have to think about anything or agonize over policy and decisions. They just “follow” their man and church.
They walk around with a dazed, bot smile and sometimes literally blank eyes (anti depressants will do that to you and UT has the highest per capita consumption of them for females). They rarely notice anything outside of what their church allows them to notice.
Case in point, female Mormon neighbor had NO CLUE who Loki or Thor were. Outside of some recent adventure thriller, this college educated female (BYU for her Mrs. degree) had no idea that Loki and Thor were Norse gods. My husband and I were floored.
So given my experience with female Mormons, Ann is about as typically self centered and self indulgent as the rest of them. They talk a good game to gentiles, but it is all bull shit.

That image of the youths holding the “Love You Ann” signs reminds me of the religious zealots who would interrupt my lunch and try to “convert” me while I was sitting In Sproul Plaza at Berkeley forty years ago. Gee I must agree, christie may not make it till 2016. I found it quite interesting after listening to the lovely fairytale from Ann about Love, Christie came out and said Forget Love how about respect. Mitt looked very uncomfortable, he had the look of doom and gloom. Like some very bad news was about to come out about him. Im trying to imagine Ann having a wedding without her parents. Seems very cruel and heartless. I was reading an article on msn about a woman that requested that mitt pay her family back bail money? Mitts great great grandfather skipped bail and this womans great great grandfather went to prison because of it. Another interesting article was mitts ancestry? 2 generations ago his grandfathers had 41 wifes? Now on the other hand it showed President Obama’s Maternal side ancestry as being related to about 10 past presidents? How great is that?
August 29, 2012 at 11:36 pm
DobieTracker
Ann later commented about the difference between her love speech and Christie’s respect speech that they were not coordinated.
If Mitt AND HIS STAFF are this UNcoordinated on such an important night and on such important speeches, then what does not say about his ability to be coordinated as a leader when the “s**t is hitting the fan and world events are happening?
Even Obama remarked when McCain “left his campaigning” to do whatever it was he did when we had that financial crisis that the president needed to be able to do more than one thing at a time.
Mitt cannot even prepare for his own convention well, but then, he hasn’t prepared ANY of his campaign that well has he. So many of the things he is being criticized for are things he could have and should have been prepared to meet head on. This taxes being only one of those things.

Ann’s primary job was to humanize Mitt and at that she failed miserably. I didn’t hear one anecdote or personal story about him that I haven’t already read in papers. She must have an odd sense of humor if she finds him funny when his proposed policies are so deadly serious. When she said we should vote for him because he works hard was she implying that President Obama doesn’t? I agree with you, Malia. I found a lot of this speech to be offensive. I can’t help but compare her to Michelle Obama who, when asked in a recent interview whether a woman could have it all, gave the most brilliant, insightful and sensitive answer to that question that I’ve ever heard.

Malia,
Thank you for your great critical analysis on Ann Romney’s speech at the RNC. When I watched her I wasn’t moved at all by her speech, I don’t see any sincere emotions in her when she said she understands the struggle of working mothers, how their life was hard when they were married living on the basement of the apartment. Actually, they didn’t have to work to support themselves and while Mitt going to graduate school – but relied on option funds that their parents set up for them. Most married students have to work full-time at the same time going to school. I also can’t stand her laugh, it is so fake, out of touch, and snobbish.
I have a friend in her forties who had a double masectomy due to breast cancer, and an MS. And she’s constantly worrying if she would be able to afford her co-payment montly on her MS medications ( cost about $1,000 per month on co-payment alone). I’m sure Ann Romney doesn’t have to worry about that, and she seemed to talk, walk ( her high stiletto heels), see, and memorize her speech very well. With the current economy right now, Ann still able to enjoy her hobbies like expensive horse riding sport called dressage while Michelle Obama extracurricular obsessions — organic gardening, healthy eating, and exercising. Ann’s speech definitely doesn’t resonate with me and alot of women out there. I’ll be pissed if Ann Romney wins more favorably than Michelle Obama.

See if you can find out what ms medication your friend is on. Let me know if I can help!

I just wanted to add one minor point to your excellent comment. Ann Romney did not memorize her speech. She read it from a teleprompter run by QTV who has run the teleprompters at every Republican National Convention since 1960.
Does anyone remember four years ago when the GOP put out the huge lie that Sarah Palin’s teleprompter had malfunctioned? Even though there were many journalists standing in places where they could clearly see the teleprompter working? Maybe this year they’ll blame the prompter operator for Ann seeming so stiff and wooden.
(for trivia buffs: Michael Barringer will be operating the teleprompter for Ann, Mitt and Paul Tryan)

I am going to open my big mouth about MS. And I apologize up front to those who really suffer from MS as I know it can be a terrible disease.
Unfortunately, MS is a disease that many can claim they have and there is no really way—correct me if I am wrong, I won’t mind !—-to diagnos it.
I KNOW it can happen in episodes and afterward the person is fine. I also know it is supposed to get worse over time.
I have a neighbor who has claimed to have MS for the 14 yrs I have known here. She rides a bike on 10 mile round trips, she carries fire wood from the yard to her home, I have seen her splitting logs, I have seen her with a chain saw cutting up small trees the power line people cut down. I have seen her on her hands and knees with a hose washing the undercarriage of her small motorhome as well as holding a very long handled brush over her head while washing the top of this motorhome. It is a small motorhome but not THAT small.
I have seen her park at not only a handicapped space by the grocery store, but seen her then stride forcefully, STRONGLY into the store ( he does not need ANY handicapped space much less the one reserved for those in a wheel chair that need the space to get out.)
She goes kayaking with her girlfriend and camping at least 2 weekends out of the month in summer and fall and washes that motorhome EVERY time.
I have seen her very obviously taking up handicapped parking when she was obviously NOT having “an episode.”
I have seen NO deterioration in her ability to move freely, swiftly, often and with exertion for long periods of time i.e. she was chainsawing those logs for at least 3 hours.
I know some exercise is good for MS and arthritis and many illnesses but the extent and amount an kinds of exercise I have seen tell me that if she can perform this well, this often and this hard, she certainly has the strength to walk to a NON-handicapped parking spot at the grocery.
Handicapped parking is needed by those who truly need it, and they deserve those places. I am just afraid there are many who claim MS and give those who truly suffer a “bad name” by their abuse of these spaces.
In addition, I would imagine this is insurance fraud.
When I related an antedote to my doctor, her immediate response was to spin on her heel and almost yell out, “I hate it when I have to write letters for those people !”
Let me repeat I am NOT talking about those with MS who truly DO suffer from this illness.
MY POINT IS THAT I DOUBT SERIOUSLY THAT ANNE ROMENY HAS MS AND IF SHE DOES, IT MOST LIKELY IS A VERY MILD FORM.
NOTHING IS MORE OBNOXIOUS, more cruel, more dishonest, than someone who claims an illness and is lying about it.
Maybe Ann really has MS. But even if she does, she is the type of person who would lie about it.
August 30, 2012 at 9:38 am

Dobie Tracker,
The definitive test for ms is an MRI of the brain. They also do spinal tap and look for a unique finding in the spinal fluid. on MRI the see pin-point “lesions’ that is unique to ms. you are right some people who are diagnosed due to one episode, may be symptom free thereafter for a long time. Then there is everything in between from people who lose their vision to people who become so paralyzed that they not only have to use wheelchairs, but they can’t move themselves in and out of the chair and their arms become so paralyzed that they can’t operate their own wheelchair with a stick. It’s tragic to see these people and those who are charged with their care. That’s why is it so offensive to me that Ann attempts to get sympathy for her ms when she can stand and waive and give speeches before the country.

Poor Ann. (rolling eyes) She practiced her speech for DAYS.
Ann Romney yesterday:
“No one will move heaven and earth like Mitt Romney to make this country a better place to live”
In 2007, Romney used the same words about not getting Osama Bin Laden.
in 2007, Mr. Romney said, “It’s not worth moving heaven and earth and spending billions of dollars just trying to catch one person.”
maybe she meant ‘no one will move heaven and earth like Mitt Romney and spend billions of dollars buying this country to make it a better place to live for me’.

Malia, this is one of your best essays ever. I might not agree with you on Christie’s speech (I thought it was self-absorbed and lacked inspiration as well as specifics), but I definitely agree with you on Ann’s. I found myself tuning out several times because her delivery was so one-note and she shared nothing new to give us a glimpse into the life of Mitt. She still characterizes women as primarily reproductive engines, since she seemed to talk only about moms. It was terrible and self-serving in a way that was more insulting than even Christie’s. Brava to you for pointing out her flaws, when few others deign to do so.

Anne may be a Mormon and I accept what others commenters say about how deferiental Mormon women may be etc.
BUT: Anne Romney is a strong, ego-centric bitch who controls her husband rather than the other way around.
——-Sudden image just hit my mind of her and Mitt playing S&D sex games and she has a whip in her hand about to strike his bare buttocks!–I have NO idea where that came from but it fits. Must wash my mind out after typing this comment
There is NO way ANY man tells this woman what to say or do.
I may be wrong, but I do not see Anne nor Mitt as religious people. To me , if they are following Mormonism, it is only because that is simply how they were raised, dont know any other way to be and are just as shallow in their spiritual-ness as the phoney extreme right wing fundamentalist “christians” who use their church and their religion for the support it gives in a cultural sense and for the clout it gives them in a political sense.
I have never felt this much disgust toward any married couple I have ever been exposed to.
And, I also think Anne is likely far more intelligent than Mitt. Certainly a better manipulator and planner. HE relies on HER, not the other way around. Trust me, this woman bosses that man ! ! !
Do not EVER feel “guilty” about attacking Anne Romney !
She is just as cold and hard as Palin if not more so. There is nothing real, nothing soft, nothing feminine about her.

Ann again slid into her “you people” mode of speaking. I guess it’s second nature to her after years of ordering around her domestic slaves. This time it was addressing Latino voters. She actually tried to equate her experince and the fact that her grandfather came from Wales(!) to what immigrants today experience at the hands of law enforcement?
“You’d better really look at your future and figure out who’s going to be the guy that’s going to make it better for you and your children, and there is only one answer.”
Was she shaking her finger when she said this? Who the fuck does she think she is?
She talked about her immigrant background, saying that her grandfather was a Welsh coalminer, trying to impress the Latino audience.
“I know what it’s like to be the daughter of immigrants,” she said.
Oh my God! Do you belive the nerve of that woman?! Quickly, name all of the terrible things that routinely face Welsh people in this country…being pulled over for driving while Welsh….asked for “papers please” in Arizona as they walk by with their pale complexions…all of the Welsh profiling that major police departments engage in.
At one point she actually said Latino voters should “get over their biases”!
And then my head exploded….

Have not read the other comments yet, so excuse me if I repeat what others have already said.
Well, the name and the face have changed, but Anne Romney is just Sarah Palin all over again.
I have ALWAYS, yes, prior to her speech, found this woman to be hard, cold, and without mercy . She certainly is without grace.
While I dont want to overuse the narcissism approach, unfortunately, our culture is currently going through a very narcissistic “phase” with more individuals feeling free and entitled to be very outfront with their “me” first mindset.
I think Palin gave a certain validity and courage to others of her ilk and encouraged their feeling that it is ok to be more demonstrative about how they really feel.
Certainly Michelle Bachman, Herman Cain, and Anne as well as her husband and Paul Ryan demonstrate this new freedom of expression for some very sick individuals.
I have NO idea how any of these people really feel about ANY of the very real policy issues because it appears that all of them are really only intent on satisfying their own personal agendas for attention, power, control and greed.
It is very possible when someone ONLY really cares about what makes THEM feel good inside, what is best for their own personal needs/desires, and especially when they are true malignent narcissist, that they will do WHATEVER it takes to get them what they want.
When these mentally ill needs are played on on the very public political stage, it is the entire citizinery of the US that is needed for that truly grandiose need for “narcissistic supply.”
I truly believe that all these people I have named, NO MATTER WHAT THEY MAY OR MAY NOT TRULY FEEL IS RIGHT AND JUST—if they are even capable of caring enough about what is truly right and just to give it any real deep thought—-will say and do whatever they think they need to do in order to get elected to that seat of power, control, attention and greed.
I am not sure which is worse:
To find out that these “politicians” (and I use the term loosely) truly believe in the biggoted, racist, and cruel policies they espouse—or—
They do NOT believe nor feel that way, but simply do not care if taking those positions is what is needed to get them where they want to be.
I had an ex-employer say to me once—ok it took about 20 times of him saying it before the light bulb went on over my head and I realized he LITERALLY meant it—that he did not care what the truth was, that he did not care who was right –that all he cared about was what was easiest for him.
You know, that is the kind of thing we say when we are mad, or excited, or frustrated, or tired or whatever but he made me understand that no, those were not his reasons for what he said.
He just LITERALLY did not care. Whatever was easiest for him.
That’s all he cared about.
Sarah Palin certainly opened a can of worms when Mccain’s campaign gave her the public exposure and the legitimacy (relatively short lived tho it may be) that validated her unearned confidence engendered by her narcissism.
This is a lesson we all need to learn and to take beyone the realm of politics and into every area of our lives.
Our else history will continue to repeat itself.
Don’t be lazy and don’t assume anything come November.
Get out and vote and drag your friends with you, give rides to strangers and speak up, raise YOUR head out of the fox hole and stand up for what you believe it, even if there is some personal costs.

There is absolutely nothing Ann Romney could ever say or do to alter the fact that her husband’s and Paul Ryan’s proposed policies are inimical to women in a cruelly unique way. They would deprive countless women of access to the kinds of life-saving services that Planned Parenthood provides in the name of being anti-abortion. They are not pro-life at all, only pro-birth. After that, they couldn’t care less. I despise the way that Republicans use tokens like Ann Romney or Sarah Palin to appeal to women, knowing that their policies are harmful and out-dated. Although manifestly crazy folks like Palin and Bachman, as well as others, were not invited to the GOP convention, they are using folks like Paul Ryan as more eloquent spokespersons to sell the same steaming, stinking pile of crap which is all their politically regressive ideology is.

Anne,
They are working so hard to court the women’s vote but they aren’t talking about the issues that make them offensive to women!

Why should we expect more from a Stepford (AKA “Republican”) wife? Ann, Cindy and Callista are interchangeable bobble-heads. Rich, pampered and shallow — the very kind of woman who swallow the swill their husbands are handing out about how women don’t care about abortions and contraception. They just care about jobs and the economy?
Their patronizing spouses will be the first to feel the ire of women across America. The time when men make all decisions for women is over. Repugs think they are still in medieval times when they, lords of the manor, hold sway over the women…and the serfs in the fields.

BW,
it is funny and sad to see just how clueless the Republicans are at attempting to reach women!

O/T but the most passionate moments during the RNC is when the Ron Paul delegates and supporters were BOOING. Dr. Paul was given a time slot to deliver a short speech, IF he submitted his speech before hand for editing, and would fully endorse Romney. He refused those conditions.
I am very angry at the RNC at backing Team Romney’s efforts to silence what would have been a blisteringly honest speech.
Regarding Ann Romney – Malia, the media and the RNC are putting a “soft focus filter” on Ann Romney because she is one of their “token” women. No one wants to speak harshly about her for fear of being perceived as “mean”, just as Joe Biden never really challenged SP during her so-called debate.
I have only read excerpts of her speech, and was not impressed. So, she has a “real” marriage. I’m so glad to hear that she has overcome the challenge of being single. (*Facepalm*)
O/T again, but I am moderately sure SP was writhing in emotional agony as Ann took the stage in a red dress and delivered a moderately decent speech. Oh, that was supposed to be SP’s keynote and color. She would have thrown out the bloody, red meat of hate and had those delegates howling.
So I thank Zeus for the tepid, self-satisfied cluelessness of Mrs. Romney. If she ever meets First Lady Michelle Obama, she might have a momentary glimpse of the difference between a lioness and a petted, spoiled lap dog.

I am a man and I watched Ann Romney’s speech by curiosity not knowing much about her background before hand. Regardless of political ideology, I find her simply incredible – that is difficult to believe. She does not come off as rather superficial and generalizing. I would have preferred if she spoke of topics that she knew instead of this speech with little sincerity.

kone Zi,
I agree and though that surely they would have her speak of something other than the struggle of the middle class, as there is no indication that she has been a member of the middle class for the last 30 years!

Kone Zi,
I am glad to hear you say that, because I thought the same thing, but thought maybe my bias was affecting my perception of her.

This entire campaign is the RNC Gop last ditch effort to completely overwhelm President Obama will lies. The rove strategist are going ALL out to lie, commit fraud and flood the american people with spin. They think like cockroaches and terrorist. They accuse the president of the very things they are guilty of. Romney and Ryan are frauds and liars. The gop and Rnc are desparate, just like 08 but worst.

Malia:
Mrs. Mitt Romney talking about her fight with cancer and Ms and how that influenced her life really got my dander up. Yes, she may may have had cancer and has Ms but,she has never had to wonder just how she ws going pay for the treatments or the way to get to her treatments. I am a survivor of two fights with cancer, then a triple-by-pass because of a drug given. Had humungous bills. Had to have the cash in hand before leaving the hospital. My children both came up with the money some how. I had no medical insurance and was on Social security. the teatments were over three thousand each. plus the stay in Hosp. and the Dr’s fee. the treatments were so toxic I was ill for three days after, and they were 38 hours each. I had eight. My stay in Hosp. came to three to four days because of being so ill. Mrs. R. trying to equate herself
with people such as me is insulting. She has no idea what happens to people who have not the resources as anyone with money. Especially the amount she has.

Dont forget. Ann Romney had the best of the best medical care. All the comfort for recovery that one could have. The stress of the disease, the treatment, the cost, the need of help all were not a factor for ann romney. She has no idea. As I am happy for someone so fortune to have this gift. She is clearly unaware of the hardship, stress and emotional drain this places on the patient.
