Some people don’t have enough to do, so they spend their time keeping track of the most popular baby names. It is being reported that “Bristol” is “one of the fastest-rising girls’ names of recent years.” However that same source also reported that the name “Bristol” was inspired by a city in England. Anyone in the Palin family would tell you that “Bristol” wasn’t named for a city in England, but for “Bristol Bay” in Alaska. Thus, it is not certain how reliable the nameberry cite is. Thank heavens that the Palins picked “Bristol” in honor of their fishing business instead of other names that could have been associated with their other business. Imagine the horror of being named:
- Holy
- Horly
- Prostinely
- Tripply
- Oraly
- Analy
- Lingly
- Cunnily
- Missy
- Hump
- Doger
- Cowgirly

This post is trashy. You show your immaturity every day Malia. I see a lonely woman with so much hate inside she has to create fictional lives for the people she irrationally dislikes.

Blake why are you here if it is trashy? Face it Bristol (oh I mean Blake) your here because you want to be here.

Well, Blake, no one is forcing you to come here. There must be more ‘comfortable’ places for you to hang out at.

That’s not Bristol. It’s the Pain’s “#1 Fan.”

Really, Blake? That’s what you see? Personally I think Ms. Litman has gone rather easy on Bristol Palin. Take a look at some other websites:
“Bristol Palin: Life’s a Tripp has to be the worst reality show in TV history. Even by the scum floating on the cesspool standards of reality TV, this one hits bottom.” Jim David
“Bristol walked tall out of the bar and then immediately fled to the shadows to call her sometimes-boyfriend Gino. She said: “I have a ton of cameras on me and a ton of paparazzi. This is not fair. This is not fun.” Again, the blunt lack of self-awareness was shocking. The cameras were filming her reality show. She chose to visit a large bar in paparazzi central. Life is not fair. Nobody ever said show business was fun. The world’s smallest violin will always play for the famous person who complains about being famous.”
This is from an Entertainment Weekly reviewer who called her reality show “weird and miserable”.
If you were to read people’s comments on these reviews you would probably be shocked. Bristol Palin is hated by a large part of the American public. This is all because of her mother using her as a prop. I really think if this young woman ever realizes how much people loathe her she will be stunned. She’s demonstrated her lack of parenting skills on television. She’s written about her promiscuity. She’s chosen this path and there is nothing irrational about the deep disgust people feel for her.

Hey, “Blake,” what was your name before you changed it?

Actually, in the UK, Bristol is a “joke “lead-in. It’s part of rhyming slang. i.e. Bristol City rhymes with “titty” which in English parlance means breasts.

judith,
Thanks for sharing this info. Are you from the UK? if so please share anything you can about the perception of Palin in Britan.

We could use “ponce” to describe Todd Palin, traditionally used to describe a man who lives off the earnings of prostitutes.
One slang word that is used completely differently in British and American slang is “fanny”. In the US it’s used to mean buttocks, in the UK it’s used as slang for vagina. Don’t go to England with your toddler daughter and let anyone hear you say you’ll slap her fanny if she misbehaves. You’ll creep everyone out!

Barbara,
I think ‘ponce” could have been Bristol’s name too!

Not from the UK, Malia, but from Sydney, Australia.. I’ve not heard much about Bristol here, but everyone knows about Sarah. She’s a punchline on her own!

Judith,
I’m so glad to know you are from Sydney. i have been to Sydney twice and if it weren’t so far from family it would be my first choice of cities to live in if I were to leave Dallas! Two of my kids just visited this summer and climbed the bridge and i got great pictures as my gift when they got home! What an incredible melting pot from around the world! i even got to pet Koala’s when i was there!

I give her mom some credit, it could of been worse. Sarah could of named Bristol “Jay Leno”.

Chuckie,
Such a disappointment for Bristol, especially after all she went through. You know all those alignment surgeries.

According to the Social Security Administration, the name “Bristol” came in at the 666th most popular name in 2009, at 560 in 2010 and 434 in 2011. It was not in the top 1000 most popular names before 2009. So I guess it is getting more popular – gack. Of course, this is just for the US, not worldwide.
“Sarah” is dropping in popularity, from #5 in 2000 to 39th in 2011. Maybe people don’t like the association with you know who?
Here’s the fun website to check out names by year, decades, states: http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/#ht=2

I don’t care for the name Bristol. I don’t think it is very pretty. There is a deadbeat town not far from where I grew up and the name reminds me of the dead enders there. Lot’s of drugs there also , too. Lots and lots.

Sarah Palin at various times has said Bristol was named after something on ESPN and on Bristol Bay. Seems she’ll say anything to curry favor.

Bristol should be thankful they didn’t name her Scaly, Finny, or Snag.
Just curious, is Blake the Irish feminine of Bloke?
And yes I realize my nick name, ToNY, was given to DP’s headed for Ellis Island, New York

aj,
My husband’s family immigrated through Ellis island, and their name was litmanovich, and the people at Ellis shortened it.
