Re: Statement of David Chaney re Todd Palin and Shailey Tripp

Dear Mr. Berger,

I am sorry I missed you by telephone today. I understand that you represent David Chaney with regard to his employment with the Secret Service, and matters that pertain to his work for the Secret Service.

It is my understanding that David Chaney has resigned from the Secret Service as a result of the scandal involving prostitutes in Colombia. I also understand that before he resigned he posted this picture on his Facebook page, of himself and Sarah Palin, with a caption regarding “checking her out”.

This picture and his comments were made as a result of being assigned to protect Sarah Palin and her family during the 2008 campaign.

It came to my attention as a result of writing a blog (malialitman.wordpress.com) that Shailey Tripp, a woman who pled no contest to a charge of running a house of prostitution in Alaska, claimed that Todd Palin introduced David Chaney, to her, his prostitute. As a result of that introduction, which took place in a bagel shop, David Chaney visited Shailey Tripp at her place of business and received services of a sexual nature.

I put Ms. Tripp in touch with Mr. Merek Schaefer, an Assistant Inspector of the Inspection Division of the Secret Service. It is my understanding that Ms. Tripp gave Mr. Schaefer two verbal statements, and one written statement documenting the initial meeting and introduction of her to Mr. Chaney by Todd Palin, and the subsequent visit Ms. Tripp had at her place of business with David Chaney. According to Ms. Tripp, services of a sexual nature were provided to Mr. Chaney.

I have sent a Freedom of Information Act Request to the Office of Homeland Security attempting to get a copy of any statement give by Mr. Chaney that would corroborate the statement of Ms. Tripp. Homeland Security asked me to obtain a release from Mr. Chaney and Mr. Palin regarding any such statement. I have sent such a request to Mr. Palin. I am hoping that you would be willing to have Mr. Chaney execute the release included with this letter. I have also included a copy of the letter from Homeland Security that identifies the documents requested.

While it seems to be undisputed that some Secret Service agents took advantage of the services of prostitutes in Colombia, there is much more controversy regarding prostitution services provided to a variety of people in the United States. The National Enquirer feartured a story about Todd Palin and Shailey Tripp. Sarah Palin said the story was all ” lies.”

She said that all we had to do was ask Todd…”Hey Todd you been hanging out with hookers lately” and he’d tell the truth. I did.  Never have I gotten a denial or verification from Todd Palin. In April of 2012, I again asked Todd the same question adding David Chaney’s name, and never got a response.  Shailey Tripp has now written a book entitled Boys Will Be Boys, documenting her recruitment into a life of prostitution by Todd Palin, and sexual services she provided to Mr. Palin. I am unaware of any public statement made by Todd or Sarah Palin in response to that book.

Because David Chaney is no longer an agent with the Secret Service the release of this statement should not damage Mr. Chaney’s reputation to any greater extent than it has already been damaged. In doing my investigation of this matter I have learned that simply because a person engages in, or takes advantage of, prostitution, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are no longer a credible witness. I am hopeful that David Chaney would be a champion for truth, and would be willing to sign this affidavit and release, to confirm that any statements he has given in this matter should be released.

I have included an affidavit for Mr. Chaney’s signature, and a copy of a letter I received from Homeland Security which itemizes the documents in question. In the event that Homeland Security never took a statement of David Chaney, I am hoping you would be willing for me to come to your office and take his statement.

I remain incredulous that Sarah Palin spoke with indignation about David Chaney, and made reference to his wife (kicking him and sending him to the dog house) and suggested that she (Palin) was sick of boys being “dogs. ” When her own husband has organized and promoted prostitution services in Alaska it is outrageous that she would dare to say such horrible things about any other man, especially one who protected her safety. If Shailey Tripps’ account of her relationship with Todd Palin could be verified we would know that Todd Palin was the Alpha male in that pack of dogs.

I seek the truth. If Todd Palin was not the person who introduced David Chaney to Shailey Tripp, then please tell me so I can clarify and set the record straight. If however Todd Palin was involved in prostitution in Alaska, and if the Palins were able to coerce the Anchorage Police Department to vindicate Todd by discrediting the story of Shailey Tripp, then David Chaney is the person who could set the record straight. Please consider having Mr. Chaney execute this release and return it to me at the above address.

Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,

Malia Litman
