After two books, and three years of writing on this blog, I have learned that any time Sarah Palin speaks I can predict that with a little research, I can show that she is lying, or simply making up things. An example of the lying would be her comments about being vindicated in the Troopergate matter.
My favorite example of her making things up is the Paul Revere story.
Headlines this morning are that Sarah Palin has made a commercial for Sarah Stillman who is running for Senate in Missouri.
This commercial would fall in the category of lies. In the short span of half-of-one-minute, or a mere thirty seconds, Palin tells three lies. If you remove the lies, you are left with the claim that Steelman is an Economist, and she did receive a Masters of Arts Degree in Economics. The lies in the ad are typical for Sarah Palin. Let me count the ways.
1. Palin introduces herself as the Governor of Alaska. She isn’t the Governor. She QUIT. More time has passed since she quit than Palin spent serving as Governor. It would be like me introducing myself as a piano player, because I was at one time in my life a piano player, for a couple of years, but I quit.
2. Palin says Steelman will “defend our tax dollars.” The truth is that during her tenure as a State Senator, Steelman voted to put Missouri Billions of Dollars in Debt. Steelman voted in favor of construction bonds that put the state $2.25 BILLION DOLLARS IN DEBT. (Missouri Senate Journal, HB 1742, April 27, 2000 and May 9, 2000, Steelman vote Yes)
In Feb. of 2003, Steelman voted in favor of issuing revenue bonds to cover a $397 million dollar budget gap, instead of “defending tax dollars” and balancing the budget. Missouri Senate Journal, HB 401, February, 19, 2003, Steelman vote Yes / HB 14, March 6, 2003, Steelman vote Yes
3. Palin says that Steelman had blocked Pork Barrel Spending. The truth is the opposite. As a State Senator, Steelman voted for millions on line-item pork-barrel spending. Those projects included:
• $39,857 for improvements to State House offices,
• $50,000 for a ‘teleconferencing facility,
• $90,000 for dairy grazing research,
• millions for building projects in Steelman’s district,
• $150,000 for a Lewis & Clark monument,
• $2 million for a convention center,
• millions for tax increment financing projects,
• more than $150,000 for Amtrak stations,
• $5.1 million to relocate state employees into a new office building,
• $4.6 million for the State Capitol Complex and office buildings (Missouri Senate Journals, 3/22/99, HB 14-17,5/7/99 HB 18-19 / 5/3/00, HB 1121, 5/5/00, HB 1120 / 5/10/01, HB 16, 18, 19, 5/7/01, HB 17 / 5/9/02, HB 1121 /5/7/03 HB 16-19)
In truth, Steelman touted her efforts to “bring home the bacon.” She even sponsored the costly super TIF legislation. She approved $1.3 million in tax credits for neighborhood improvement in her district. She vowed to continue efforts to win more tax credits for her district. She secured a $233,267.00 state grant to replace a bridge in her district.
It appears that Palin simply lies, or doesn’t know what pork barrel spending is.

Either way, her commercial for Sarah Steelman is misleading, dishonest, and a lie.

Oh Sarah lied? That shouldn’t surprise anyone. As soon as she opens her mouth you can pretty much predict that she’s going to lie. Truth and facts are something she can’t seem to grasp.

vicky,
While writing the blog, and not knowing anything about Steelman, it took all of 20 minutes to learn about her history of spending, so it’s clear Palin never tried to determine if what she was saying was true.

OK you lost me on this one. She has a bachelor of arts in history and master of arts in economics. Quite a leap, considering the math and calculus requirements of the Economics. Something seems odd in that resume.

aj,
I agree, but I’m giving her the benefit of the doubt to say she is an “economist” because she does have a masters in economics. The spending policies are clearly lies.

Math and calculus are generally required for a Bachelor/Master of SCIENCE in Economics and the key difference between such a degree and the less rigorous Bachelor/Master of ARTS degree.

curiouser,
Maybe a Bachelor of ARTS in Economics means that you are prepared to make a collage out of coins.

The Wasilla/Los Angeles Trolls are all over this. The Palins don’t appreciate
their LIES being exposed. You keep up the good work of telling the Truth.

Dishonesty has never stood in the way of Palin making a buck or trying to play kingmaker. Regrettably she has learned that the 24-hour news cycle spends little time fact-checking so she seldom gets called on the carpet.
Malia, I hope you are sharing these LIES with Steelman’s opponent. Lying is not fashionable when your opponent calls you on it. We need to remove any shine that Palin’s “endorsements” have. She doesn’t vet candidates and does lie. A bad combo.

I’ll make sure to copy her opponent, but I’m sure they know.

Paula,
I don’t know unless it’s someone who wants to meet Todd to see who’s available when they are in Alaska.

I too cannot understand why the media doesn’t call her out. If they would more often, maybe we could finally be rid of her. I will be watching Texas tonight. If Cruz wins, does that mean Sarah wins too? Maybe after the Republicans start losing their party to the TeaPartiers and Sarah, they will finally take action against her. I have never seen a party with so many wimps. If Obama wins the big election for president, the Republicans deserve to lose.

Palin inspired me to vote in the Republican primary. We’ll all be watching tonight!

Why is it you can bring down a president and John McCain, but we cannot bring down Sarah?

I was glad to see this article about how disenchanted TPers are with their former would-be queen.
As the issue of VP choice has arisen this year, so has her star sunk within the GOP at large. She is now regarded as an embarassment, except to horny old white men who like a ‘hot grandma’ (judging from postings around the Web): http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/07/31/why-sarah-palin-s-reputation-has-plummeted-as-bill-clinton-s-has-grown.html

I saw Sarah Palin’s in commercial last night. We in Missouri have been enduring a raft of commercials by what seems to me as local yokels….everyone of them bashing either Obamacare or liberals.
I figured out today while traveling to and from Ozark, Mo to Ava, Mo that Ms. Steelman appears to have a nasty demeanor about her. Her “the status quo has got to go” really is getting old with me…she says it in her commercials on TV. The one rule in marketing is if people like you, they will buy from you…..well, I’m not buying it! Keep talking Ms. Palin and really you are not the Governor and it just looks & sounds stupid…. and ditch those ugly cowgirl boots!

Cracklin' Charlie
I finally saw this lame-ass video on my teevee this morning at 1 am. I DO NOT LIKE seeing this woman on my teevee at 1 am. I am going to have to install an ACME teevee screen protector today, or my teevee is gonna get busted!
Sarah Steelman, if she wins the republican primary, will be running against Claire McCaskill. Steelman has been running for, and losing, one election after another, for at least 6 years. The Chamber of Commerce is running ads which feature attacks against Steelman (R) and McCaskill (D) in the same ad! They are backing Steelman’s republican primary opponent, Brunner, a really smarmy little character. Ham Rove’s PAC has been running daily attack ads against Claire for TWO YEARS(!) during the evening news. I almost have the script committed to memory. Somebody really doesn’t like Claire.
Missouri politics might get really ugly this week, in the run-up to the Republican primaries. I heard a great radio interview with the R candidates for Lt. Governor…I swear, if they had been in the same room, blows would have been exchanged. There is a great Missouri politics website, called Fired Up Missouri, I think. Funny stuff, there. I will look for a link.
