Devout Player Hater,
I think he will be able to CLAIM self defense, and it will be up to the jury to decide if he assumed the risk when he chased after Martin. The fact that he chased Martin after being told not to will be used by the prosecution to argue to the jury that he was not in fear of his life. The real question is whether the passage of time could change anything. For example if he chased Martin, and simply shot him during the chase, it seems a jury would easily conclude that this was not self defense. However if the jury believes his story that Trayvon hit him, and was bashing his head, then he might prevail in convincing them that he was then in fear of his life, and they could decide this was self defense. I personally don't believe that he was on the ground when he fired the shot, and if that's true it changes the whole story.

Zimmerman brought about any of his alleged injuries when he decided to 'run' after Trayvon. Zimmerman already had in his mind before he 'ran' after Trayvon that Trayvon was 'suspicious', 'up to no good' and 'had his hands in his waistband' but despite believing all of that, he gets out of his truck, and over the advice of the dispatcher, proceeds to 'run' after Trayvon.Under those circumstances, Zimmerman could never hope to claim self-defense when, after all, he placed himself into the circumstances that led to any of his purported injuries. Nobody told him to go 'running' after Trayvon, he chose to do that at his own free-will and at his own risk, and he can not now complain that he was in fear for his life when he claimed to have been 'attacked' by the very person that he 'ran' behind. That doesn't make sense at all. It would be fool-hearted to suggest that Zimmerman should be entitled to self-defense when he knowingly and willfully took the assumption of risk, Volenti Non Fit Injuria when he chose to 'run' behind Trayvon.

Similarily, if a person crosses a barrier into a leopard cage to retrieve a smouldering cigarette gets mauled by the leopard, under the law, he would be prevented from suing based on the volenti maxim doctrine.

Assumption of Risk, Volenti Non Fit Injuria or Volentix Maxim are legal doctrines that bar Zimmerman from claiming self-defense under the circumstances that led to him shooting and killing Trayvon Martin.

George Zimmerman is a truly sick puppy who has never had to truly answer for all his misdeeds. The murder of an innocent kid is only the worst. He has the unmitigated gall to invoke God for his horrible deed because he has a host of enablers in addition to his father. They are the ones who contribute to his defense fund and/or trash Trayvon Martin and his family. That's why this low-life can publicly state that he has no regret about what he did. He's brimming with narcissism, a sense of entitlement, and self-righteous hubris. I sincerely hope that the prosecution uses this "interview" against him, with all the other evidence they have.

GZ doesn't seem to be particularly observant of facts outside of his own reality; and doesn't seem to think too deeply or in detail about events and what's been reported in his own case.. He seems to talk off the top of his head and feel his way, not seeing for example how what he's just said could trip him up in what he says next. When he started off with Hannity, he was asked something by SH in the context of now having had time to reflect.... GZ immediately said he hasn't really had time to reflect, then within the same answer, momentarily refers to when he was in jail stating that he was in solitary and had a lot of time to think and reflect...Huh?

Whatever he has been reflecting upon doesn't seem to be helping his inconsistencies much, and doesn't seem to reconcile his statements with facts. This might be a blessing for the prosecution in the big picture.

By now, GZ has had time to learn all about Trayvon having been on the phone for much of their encounter. When in a response to SH he stated that he was certain he could see that TM was saying something to him as he was on the call with the dispatcher, it ought to have occurred to him that TM instead was likely talking on the phone with his girlfriend.

If on that night GZ in good faith had been truly wanting to ascertain whether TM was a ne'er-do-well, then if TM was thought to be speaking to him as he purports, and since he told Hannity that at that time early on he was not feeling particularly threatened, would not the thing to do be to see what TM was saying to him...perhaps all could have gone differently -- another thing he ought to think he could have done differently? It seems he was either scared of TM early on and lying about this, or he had TM all figured out in his mind, and was arrogantly dismissing anything TM might be saying to him as worthless or inconsequential. How responsible is that for someone on NW, suspicious enough to call the police?

GZ ought to know what the investigator's reports have detailed, including that the tragedy was preventable by GZ had he identified himself which he had at least two opportunities to do. One would think this might have registered as one thing he wishes he had done differently, if not leave his gun behind, stay in his vehicle, not scare Trayvon (which idea I noted he was curiously dismissive of, saying TM wasn't running in fear...I would think this was another lie that TM wasn't running, based on Dee Dee's statement that TM was breathing hard). Now TM was skipping, walking fast. I would guess he is on the defensive trying to avoid admitting to a fault which would serve to fuel the prosecution. Once he admits he erred, he is that much closer to conviction.

Not a fan of Hannity, he did ask some good questions though, like asking GZ why TM would tell him to shut up which is what GZ claimed was one of the things TM was saying during allegedly assaulting GZ. GZ didn't know. Having little trust in GZ's account, I would wonder and have before, if GZ is telling a projected version on one or more things the opposite of what they were; in this case TM was screaming, and GZ was holding a gun on him for ex, telling TM to shut up.

SH also asked why GZ felt the need to carry a gun, pointing out some people have one at home but that GZ carried one; he asked if GZ just carries it all the time to which GZ said he carries it all the time except for when at work. The question initially asked, "Why" never got answered, and I wonder if Hannity was waived on by MO not wanting GZ to answer the "why" question, because it wasn't pursued.

One thing seemingly apparent is that GZ and MO are not on the same page. Take the notorious hiding of funds and passport at the bond hearing. It does appear that GZ is comfortable casting attorney advice to the wind when it suits him (his calling the prosecutor's office against advice of his original attorneys, his making demand(s) and cancelling his interview with Walters, which interview MO had confirmed would take place to Walters just the day before). I can't imagine MO is thrilled with some of GZ's unpredictable curve balls. He's being repeatedly put in the position of it appearing that possibly he hasn't adequately informed his client of the dangers, for example. Another case in point is the website of GZ being reopened with GZ having editorial privileges; this was probably something GZ had to fight MO for.

I'm estimating that more than arrogance, GZ is likely feeling some desperation in not wanting to admit any fault. He's well aware he's on the chopping block for his own life, having ended Trayvon's in circumstances that have turned out to be far different than what he so wrongly perceived about TM that night. He knows on some level the thin ice he's on.
