Yesterday we celebrated Martin Luther King’s birthday.  Coincidentally Sarah Palin reminded me of my favorite MLK quote, “Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.”

Although it would be a stretch to describe Sarah Palin as “sincere” or “conscientious,” she is dangerous because of her ignorance and stupidity.  Almost two years ago, when this blog was very new, the lack of education, understanding, and willingness of Palin to give her opinion on things about which she knew nothing was unparalleled.

Since that time we have learned that Palin’s typical response to any unfavorable reporting is not to respond to facts reported, but to attack with colorful personal attacks.  In previous posts I have listed these names and insults Palin has used in responding to reporters who were not complimentary of her by making reference to them as “elites,” “impotent,” “gutless,” “limp,” “puppy kicking,” “chain-smoking,” porn-producers,” “corrupt bastards” and “child molesters.”  We can understand how she earned her nick-name “barracuda” which is a sharp-edged, predator with fang-like teeth, which is voracious and opportunistic.

We can add a new name to the list, “kook writer.”

Palin was making reference to Andrew Sullivan’s cover story in Newsweek.

Palin wrote, “Know what’s truly ‘dumb’? Giving a cover story to the Trig-Truther conspiracy kook writer who thinks I didn’t give birth to my son”.

The amazing thing is that Mr. Sullivan doesn’t mention Sarah Palin, or the controversy over the identity of Trig’s biological mother.  In fact this article is a well reasoned and revealing look at Obama’s first three years in office.   In this four page article Sullivan reports on many issues facing President Obama, including jobs, the stimulus, taxes, Obamacare, foreign policy matters (including Libya, Osama bin Laden, and the Iraq war), the auto bailout, gays serving in the military, gay marriage, energy, the end of torture, appointment of two women to the Supreme Court, and banking issues.  Mr. Sullivan’s conclusion is that Obama has been underestimated because he has been very insightful about decisions he has made and has taken a long-term, big picture, approach to these very difficult issues.  While Obama has thoughtfully considered the best way to deal with this multitude of problems, Sarah Palin’s approach is to respond in less than 24 hours of publication to this “kook” by calling him names, and completely failing to cite a single fact that was reported in error.

Andrew Sullivan, the “kook”, describes himself as a conservative and is the author of The Conservative Soul. He supports a broad range of traditional conservative positions. He favors a flat taxlimited government, privatization of social security, and opposes welfare state programs and interventionism. His position on abortion is mixed; he says that he personally finds it immoral and favors overturning Roe v. Wade, but can accept legal abortions in the first trimester.  Sullivan supported G. W. Bush in the 2000 election. In 2004, Sullivan reluctantly decided to support John Kerry‘s presidential campaign, due to his dissatisfaction with the handling of the postwar situation in Iraq by the Bush administration, their views on gay rights, and their fiscal policy. In 2006, he supported the Democratic Party. Sullivan (like a number of other conservatives) endorsed Senator Barack Obama for the Democratic Nomination in the 2008 U.S. Presidential Election, and Rep. Ron Paul for the Republican nomination. Sullivan endorsed Obama for President on the eve of the election.Sullivan has declared support for Arnold Schwarzenegger and other like-minded Republicans, and written sympathetically about Republican congressman Ron Paul, whom he endorsed for the 2008 and 2012 Republican presidential nomination; he later withdrew the 2012 endorsement. He is an author, editor, political commentator and blogger.  Sullivan is a speaker at universities, colleges, and civic organizations in the United States. He has been a guest on national news and political commentary television shows in the United States and Europe.  Sullivan is a former editor of The New Republic and the author of five books. He is perhaps best known as the author and editor of his blog, The Dish, which mainly focuses on political issues.

According to Sarah Palin he is a “kook.”

The funny thing is that this “kook” spent a lot of time, researching writing,  and analyzing the facts supporting this article. Sarah Palin spent about 15 seconds sending out her tweet.  The most thought she gave to her words was to select the most offensive name to use, and then to find a way to make the article all about her. “Dumb” and “kook” would suggest that the barracuda is getting old.  Making reference to the “Trig-Truther” would indicate that she is more focused on the story she told almost four years ago about Trig’s birth, rather than making plans for his 4th birthday.
