Two weeks ago I received a comment on this blog from a person identified as “Shay Tripp.” Although I was quite skeptical at first, the reason that I believed that the person might in fact be the real Shailey Tripp was the tone of the comment. She seemed to have had her feelings hurt by something I had written on this blog. Through several e-mails I was able to confirm that she was the real Shailey Tripp. Shailey agreed to give me an exclusive interview after she spoke with Jesse Gryphen of the Immoral Minority. Jesse posted an article and actual recording of that interview.

. Yesterday was my day to interview Shailey.
I spoke with her for almost an hour. She explained that for quite some time she had not slept well, but after revealing what she knew about the Palins, that she has been able to sleep better. Shailey has two children and her perception is that one day they will learn about this, and she wants to be able to show them that she did the right thing.
As the mother of two children, she was willing to confirm that she had kids, but out of concern for them, Shailey didn’t want to talk about them. She was the child of a military family and as such moved often. She has been married and divorced twice, each time for a very short period. At least one Ex-husband has caused her to be concerned for her personal safety, and she doesn’t get child support from either of them.
She agreed to do this interview without any consideration being given by me. No money or benefit was promised or conferred. Shailey wanted the truth to be available, regardless of whether it might be believed by anyone. She gave this interview knowing that she would likely never receive any money from National Enquirer for the story.
According to Shailey Tripp, she met Todd when she was working as a substitute teacher at the school one of the Palin children was attending. She confirmed the information reported by Jesse Gryphen of the Immoral Minority, and that the recording had not been doctored or altered in any way.
Shailey stated that she had sex with Todd Palin and that he paid her in cash for her services. She indicated that she was aware of some type of distinct physical characteristic of Todd, that would not be generally known, but she was not willing to reveal what that might be. According to Shailey, she and Todd always used protection when having sex, and Todd provided it. She was confident that there were public records to confirm that they had such a relationship, but she did not have them in her possession at this time. Shailey no longer lives in Alaska, and she reported that her reason for moving was due, in part, to fear that her relationship with Todd Palin might result in a dangerous situation for her. She was clear that she had never been threatened.
She confirmed that she was arrested, and charged with running a house of prostitution, and she pled no contest to those charges. She did indicate concern about things she overheard the Anchorage Police say, but was not willing to reveal the details of that conversation.
When specifically asked about donations to the SarahPAC, Shailey indicated that she had donated gift certificates for massages, and some Airbonne products, worth more than $500.00, but thought those were being donated to a “real-estate convention.” If in fact the donations went to the SarahPAC, she didn’t know about that.
There were many things I asked about which Shailey indicated she could not yet speak. When asked if there was a connection between her last name, Tripp, and Bristol’s son “Tripp,” she indicated she could not talk about it at this time. However Shailey agreed to do another interview in the near future.
Shailey felt bad to be interfering with the marriage of Todd and Sarah. She made a point of telling me that to her knowledge Sarah never knew about her, or her relationship with Todd. She never heard Sarah or Todd speak about any of Sarah’s pregnancies, or the birth of Trig, even though Todd did speak with her about his kids, and how proud he was of them.
Having communicated on the phone with Shailey for an hour, and having exchanged e-mails, it is my personal opinion that Shailey is an honest, hard working, and a dedicated mother. As a single parent she is committed to revealing the truth about the Palins. It is her hope that one day her children will know that in spite of less than ideal circumstances, pressure, and the potential financial gain of “selling” her story, she volunteered the story to those who she trusted to report the truth. Before posting this story, I have sent it to Shailey Tripp to ensure that I reported the facts accurately, according to her. She confirmed that this is an accurate account of our interview.

“Consideration” is a legal term that means “what you give in exchange for something you receive.” It could be cash, property, services, etc.
Malia is an attorney so her legal background comes out in her writing occasionally. After using legal terms for many years, they just pop out naturally.

why would OW want ST to quit talking? ST has her own blog / where she clearly states that her coming forward is not about Palin but it’s about TODD. She claims on IM interview that she met Todd while she was substitute teaching at a school his child went to. We verify things. That verifies that her statement may very well be credible.
Not all of us are trying to shut this down. And stop attacking people when you don’t know them. Those are AK public records that appear to back up a statement that ST made.

Can you get a confirmation on her real educational background? She is listed as so many things….computer expert, rocket scientist, massage therapist and now she states she was a substitute teacher??
I really want to believe her and want her to be the one to break babygate wide open, but i am really hesitant. She seems alittle “off” to me in her represenations of herself and that makes me doubt her.

SarahPAC was established in Feb 2009 and the reporting on Tripp’s donation of inkind services have been dated to 2006, during Palin’s campaign for governor. If Tripp made any donations to SarahPAC since it was set up, they have not been discovered as yet.

I feel better that Shailey has taken some precaution for her safety, but sure wish more information was available NOW. I guess the slow leak is a good way to torture the paylins—and admit to other bloggers, that my schadenfreude towards the paylins embarrasses me. Interesting. I am hopeful that this interview will contribute to Shailey continuing to find a healthy course for her life and not becoming dependent on income from fleeting celebrity status.
One might conclude from this interview that she was in need of money and felt at the time that a solution was to be paid for sex? Accepting the fact that she regrets her actions, I am still left wondering…recent comments on C4Palin site suggest that we should stop providing school lunches and other social services to families in need, because this is the only way for them to have the incentive to care for themselves. They have gone so far as to say that if kids come to school starving and are ill due to lack of food, the parents should be threatened with a fine and jail and expulsion of their children (all actions that cause the family to be more financially and emotionally impoverished), rather than providing welfare in the form of school lunches. I wonder if the C4Palin folks believe it is preferable that some women will resort to selling their bodies simply to put food on the table for their children (this is not an uncommon phenomenon throughout the world), rather than have those hard earned tax dollars be used to help needy families.

Desparation makes people do the things they do. I just read an article somewhere, where some of the new congress people actually ARE declining their federally paid healthcare, and for the first time have to pay for it themselves. Even though they ran with a position against ‘Obamacare’, they NOW realize how expensive it is to have to pay for it themselves ($1200+/month), and how f***ed up they are if/when one of their dependents has a pre-existing condition.
They are indicating that they will not vote against the health care issue anymore!

I can see why they are advocating from the perspective of incentives, but their statements are very cold hearted, which is especially disconcerting given many of these conservatives are advertising themselves as being Christians.

Excellent blog Malia. I think this woman is getting a raw deal and will keep getting a raw deal when it really starts hitting the MSM. Sooner than later the MSM is going to have to cover this. IM interview is a drip drip drip and she comes off honest. Just because someone had a job with the oldest profession doesn’t make her a liar. It’s good to know that Shailey Tripp is no longer in Alaska for her own safety and I commend her for coming forward with the truth. I wish there were more Alaskans willing to speak out and tell the truth about the Palin family but I suspect they would also have to leave the state if they did.

Malia, Thanks for getting a more personal, human interest view of this story. It’s been mostly characters from a bad soap opera. Now it’s real. Anyone who has had to struggle to provide for their children can relate to Ms. Tripp’s story. Ms. Tripp is turning out to be the true mama grizzly. In addition, you help Ms. Tripp’s chances of survival by publishing the story. Accidents and suicides usually occur before the witness can get the story out.
It is amazing that a couple of bloggers and a “tabloid” have out scooped the national media and pulled open the veil of secrecy that was protected by the Republican party and Palin’s local supporters in Alaska. I have to wonder why we pay huge salaries to reporters and media managers to tell us what the news is. A couple of unpaid activists just made them look like part of the Empress’ staff, empty words and no clothes.

Yes, but the question is why. Why did the enquirer cut ties with her, or even the other way around? Why did she end up with bloggers. Why not create her own blog actually, like Mercede did, to tell her story if she wants to do that. She writes. She knows how to do that. And now she’s got lawyers, I think? She’s not completely forthcoming, she’s gingerly giving out information. There’s only three possible reasons for not providing information. One, for legal reasons. Two, for a future payday. Three, to have time to get her story straight and decide HOW much of the tale she wants to tell. (For example, how a grandson got the Tripp name, and if she has relationships with anyone other than Todd).
In any case, it’s all very interesting and I wait to see what unfolds. I hope it doesn’t suddenly just stop in its tracks, like with Levi, who obviously could have had a tell-all book and chose not to.

Malia – All of your hard work and perserverance (and Gryphen’s and others) will pay off very soon. The day when Mrs. Palin will be completely revealed to the world for the grifter and lunatic she truly is, is just around the corner. I have supported you and the others who have blogged about the Palin/Heath “Disturbia” since Palin came to the attention of the world media following McCain’s decision to choose her as his running mate. It was obvious old Senator McCain, standing behind her on stage, was watching Palin’s legs and butt during her rollout appearances. Anyone who paid attention saw that and we understood so clearly what McCain was up to.
Ms. Tripp will prove to be a credible witness. I hope her story gains traction. It certainly should. Mrs. Palin has essentially been in hiding. Perhaps she will quietly crawl away. Nonetheless, Ms. Tripp’s revelations are powerful indictments of the entire Palin cabal.

Yes, Malia. I too have concerns for Ms. Tripp. She is a brave person. This morning I was reading on Salon about the Wikileaks situation and one of their staunch defenders and one of my heroes in the world of journalism, Glenn Greenwald. There are documents which show that Bank of America (BOA) and other powerful forces in the US economy have essentially contracted with law firms and PR firms and security firms to disable and destroy Greenwald and anyone else who supports the Wikileaks’ upcoming disclosures related to corporate malfeasance and dirty corporate behaviors by BOA and others (I am NOT referring to the claissified US government documents already leaked by wikileaks). These corporate practices are reportedly connected to the near destruction of the American middle class and working class, including homeowners. Some have expressed concerns about Greenwald’s personal well-being and safety. Confronting the very powerful at any level of government and/or the corporate powerful, is very concerning to put it mildly.
I giver you and Jesse Gryphen and Ms. Tripp and others great credit for what you are doing.

Great Interview Malia! The communication woman to woman makes a difference to me….I also liked Gryphen’s interview. We’ve all been waiting for what seems like forever to solve the baby mystery. I hope Shailey will continue these interviews.
I do have a question I might hope to be asked and that is was this particular spa/salon that Todd and Sarah frequented, recommended and attended by other people of influence in either state government or general population. I ask this because I am wondering if there was not a sense of entitlement…do the deed requested (sex or hands on) or face consequences.

The trouble is, censorship is truely damaging to the cause on this issue even though I know it’s to spare Shailey’s feelings. Not verbatim because I didn’t cut and paste it, but the intent.

The reason why there is confusion is because this was an affair between Todd and Shailey. Todd paid Shailey not for sex but to help out with her dismal financial situation and Todd made it a relationship. Not a sincere relationship on Todd’s part but he convinced her it was. It was a very sincere relationship on Shailey’s part and she was jilted. Now she has to tell her story but it might never get to the point where she reveals all that. It’s rather personal to her of course. But after all, what can we say about Shailey other than a whore’s just a whore? Not that I don’t feel for her. And not that I hate Todd Palin even more for the con job he did on her to get laid. If you’re a woman, you need to understand that for a man, it’s a lot better getting laid by a woman that is doing it for fun and enjoyment than it is with a prostitute.

Remember this? the divorce papers sound like they were already written up “before” Sarah quit her Gov gig and took the big bucks.
After the loss to Obama she didn’t want the hard work anymore, she wanted to be pampered AGAIN and knew she could make MEGA bucks, so the decision was made to go for it. I’m sure Todd enjoys his side of the benefits, big boy toys and probably more women on the side. Once a person strays they will likely stray again and again.
Their marriage is one of convenience, it works for both of them to keep up the sham and scam. He knew he could hold that over her head, if they divorced it would hurt her image, PLUS he has all the goods on her.

I am sure your objectivity and offer to let Shiley confirm the accuracy of your article went a long way towards establishing trust. Based on what you’ve written, I would agree with your assessment of her character and motivation for speaking out. Hopefully you’ll have another opportunity to speak with her soon.
I am curious about her statement that there are “public records” confirming a relationship with Todd, but she doesn’t have them in her possession. It seems odd to me that she would not have secured this evidence, since we all know how things have a way of “disappearing”, especially when a Palin is involved. I am assuming what she means by public records is that anyone can access them, so I’m wondering why that documentation has not been obtained.
Also, was she hesitant to discuss the issue of Sarah’s pregnancy, or did your questions focus on the relationship with Todd? I was thinking that if she wanted to get her story out about how everyone at the spa was shocked to find out Sarah was pregnant, Andrew Sullivan would be a great contact. He seems to be the only mainstream journalist interested in getting at the truth about the Palins, and I believe he would treat her fairly.

If you ever speak with Shailey again, encourage her and others at the Spa to file a “mental anguish” suit against Sarah Palin, This could force a hand on babygate. The Spa staff could claim they were distraught when sarah “delivered” Tri-G as Sarah denied she was pregnant and had such and such treatments which are contraindicated in pregnancy!! The staff were distraught that they could have hurt the “fetus” or the governor!! Now, we know there was not a fetus in there, so…….
