Every “good” Christian knows that Jesus said that the most important commandment was to Worship God. He said,
“… ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ (NIV, Mark 12:28-30).
This concept of devotion to God is directly and expressly contrary to the worship of pagan deities. Because I am confident that advocates of Palin would suggest that I was misconstruing the meaning of the Bible, let me quote directly from a Christian web site:
“ In today’s world, many things compete against God for our devotion. These are some of the things that can become modern-day idolatry if we let them become too important to us:
- Excessive attention to material things such as houses, cars, clothes, jewelry, physical appearance, entertainment, etc.
- Pursuit of wealth, power, fame, pleasure or status
- Excessive devotion to self, job, hobbies, country, ideologies, heroes, leaders, even family
Bible references: 1 Samuel 15:23, Matthew 6:31-34, 22:34-40, Mark 12:28-31, Luke 10:25-28, Acts 14:11-15, 1 Corinthians 10:14, Galatians 5:19-21, Ephesians 5:5, Colossians 3:5, Philippians 3:18-19, 1 Timothy 6:6-11, 6:17-20, 2 Timothy 3:1-5, Hebrews 13:5, 1 Peter 4:1-6
Other references: Love the Lord Your God, What does the Bible say about money and wealth?, Wealth.
According to this web site the second “most important” commandment is to respect all people.
“The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” (NIV, Mark 12:31)

Sarah Palin is the perfect example of a person who portrays herself as so holy that God talks to her, and yet she appears to violate these two commandments every day of her life. She is consumed with material things, her only pursuit appears to be to increase her financial worth, and her excessive devotion to herself is obvious. Not only did she fail to love her neighbor in the figurative sense, she had nothing kind to say about her actual neighbor, Joe McGinnis, and can’t find anything positive to say about the President of the United States. The lies of B.S. make her unholy character even worse.
B.S. has worked hard to characterize herself as a hunter. Yet the reality is quite different. She did not own a hunting license in 2008 and 2009. http://malialitman.wordpress.com/2010/09/17/that-dog-dont-hunt. Her own minister, Pastor Muthee, hunted witches in Africa, and for a price would exorcize the demons from them. It was this “Christian” minister who advocated “spiritual warfare” against “the enemy.” Muthee urged his congregation to crush “the python spirit” of the unbeliever enemies by stomping on their necks. He specifically condemned witchcraft, exclaiming, ”We come against the spirit of witchcraft! We come against the python spirits!” Another pastor at the same service added “We stomp on the heads of the enemy!” http://www.huffingtonpost.com/max-blumenthal/the-witch-hunter-anoints_b_128805.html. Thus Palin’s own minister promoted violence against any “unbeliever”.
Palin herself promoted violence through Facebook by posting a picture of 20 gun sites, and differentiating those who were real targets, and those who were retiring at the end of their terms. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/03/24/sarah-palins-pac-puts-gun_n_511433.html. In multiple speeches she refers to “reloading”. She even used this metaphor with regard to the racial slurs of Dr. Laura when she used the “N” word 11 times in her nationally broadcast radio show. http://blog.zap2it.com/thedishrag/2010/08/sarah-palin-to-dr-laura-schlessinger-dont-retreat-reload.html.
Palin has gone even farther. Not only has she inspired hatred and violence, but Sarah Palin has now endorsed the ultimate “witch” in politics, Christine O’Donnell. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yc3RW2qiwNc. In spite of Christine’s “dabbling in witchcraft” Palin endorsed her justifying the endorsement by explaining:
“… Please support Christine O’Donnell in Delaware…. We can’t afford “more of the same” in Washington. Christine will help usher in the real change we need to get America on the right track. …” http://www.facebook.com/notes/sarah-palin/christine-odonnell-for-delaware/428209588434.
Palin was right about one thing. Electing a witch would give new meaning to the “power” held by Congress.
If the “targets” of Palin’s Facebook note were not sufficiently instructive, consider her comments regarding the proposed construction of a place of prayer, on property owned by U.S. citizens. Famous for the use of the word “refudiate,” Sarah Palin said:
“Ground Zero Mosque supporters: doesn’t it stab you in the heart, as it does ours throughout the heartland? Peaceful Muslims, pls refudiate.” http://politicalhumor.about.com/b/2010/07/20/palin-compares-self-to-shakespeare-after-inventing-word-refudiate.htm
This time she inspired Michael Enright to attempt murder of a peaceful cab driver who was a husband, a father, and a religious man. The Christian passenger in the cab repeatedly stabbed the driver, in the neck, face, and forearm. The EMT who arrived at the scene indicated that the cab driver would have died if the cuts had been deeper or longer. Before this vicious attach Michael Enright confirmed that the victim was in fact Muslim. Thus, the victim was clearly targeted for religious reasons only. After reciting an Arabic greeting Mr. Enright slashed the driver. http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/08/25/cabbie-attacked. Mr. Enright held the knife, and it was He that stabbed the driver. However Sarah Palin is equally responsible for this brutal and unprovoked attack. It was her call to arms that inspired the hatred in general, and which determined the weapon of choice by the attacker.
Now, one of our readers shares the story of her unaccompanied daughter being threatened on an Alaskan Airline, because of two 1” Stars of David appeared on the sides of a baseball cap she was wearing. The two people involved in making the threats were in their 60’s, Caucasian, and apparently from Alaska. They looked like all the other Tea Party attendees at one of Palin’s speeches. The threat made to “smack her in the face” if she didn’t remove her hat was outrageous. Yet it was the lack of response by the airlines that was unforgivable. In the minds of the flight attendants moving the young woman to another seat was the only thing necessary. The pilot was not notified, the federal marshals were not present when the plane landed, and the two people who threatened violence against a fellow passenger because of her religion, were allowed to exit the plane as if nothing had happened.
We will likely recognize individual examples of bigotry and intolerance throughout our lives. Fortunately we have a Constitution that guarantees our right to worship as we choose, or not at all. Luckily our founding fathers insisted on the separation of church and state. When leaders like Sarah Palin encourage this form of bigotry and hatred it is unforgivable. Religious leaders and politicians, no matter how conservative, should be outspoken in their condemnation of people like the passengers on the plane. If B.S. was speaking to God he would tell her to teach by example and become an outspoken advocate for religious tolerance. Instead she sets “targets” on people, she encourages people to “reload,” and promotes Stabbing of people who worship in a way that is different than her own. When the Holy Spirit talks to B.S. maybe she isn’t listening. Instead of whispering, www.kansascity.com/…/palin-puts-personal-spin-on-abortion.html maybe it should yell!

Make that “gun sights” … I thought you were saying Web sites where guns can be purchased. But you mean, I believe, the crosshairs one sights through at a target, right?

I blame Palin for most of the uncivil discourse in this country. We have long had racism … anti semetism … hatred of Muslims – but it wasn’t considered POLITE to spew this venemous bile from sea to shining sea.
When Sarah Palin ran for VP, she opened the door to the racists, giving them her express permission to say “whatever” to anyone under Freedom of Speech. All the moronic poorly educated mouth breathers have taken her at her word. The HATERS have a license now, to attack people with racist taunts and it’s considered to be okay? It’s almost acceptable to use the “N” word or attack someone’s faith or culture.
I’m sure the rest of the world is looking at us like we are all on Ecstasy. We look like ignorant hicks … we are nasty, we are dumbed down, our politicians are pretty much all in it for the money. Our crazies are running our National asylum.
So dear readers … when it affects your family … when one of your family is verbally attacked … perhaps you will know and understand that this license to HURT people isn’t maybe such a good and productive thing.
My parents taught me manners – evidently that isn’t being done in all circles at this point.
I am ashamed for the people who attacked my daughter – they are pitiful shreds of human flotsam. On the other hand, my daughter has had to have the discussion with HER kids as to what they would do and how they would respond when/if it happened to them. They are little kids … not even teens…and they know their mother was verbally threatened for their RELIGION. That is not a discussion she wanted to have …
Somehow society needs to get hold of itself and stop the insanity – and it IS insanity! There cannot be that many people who feel that screaming epithets at someone is “appropriate” behavior”???
Thanks Malia – you have been a huge help to me with this. I appreciate your sympathy and kindness – it is not an issue I wish my daughter had been forced to deal with, and not sharing her faith … I don’t really know the best way to help her.
She will move on – with a bitter taste in her mouth – and the full realization that evidently she isn’t safe in her own country, from white elderly bigots with big mouths and hatred in their hearts.

Bandit, Thanks for sharing this horrible experience with all of us. More than ever this experience is evidence of the importance of all of us doing what we can to make a difference! Politics is nasty business, but if we don’t speak up, the country could be taken over by the likes of the people on this plane. It was a strong majority of people who elected Barack Obama, so we need to make sure that our voices are loud and strong. Malia
